Week Eight
Central Texas:
Cedar Park slammed the door on the District 25-4A race with a 34-0 shutout of Vandergrift, as Nate Grimm accounted for 375 yards. Pflugerville Hendrickson remained unbeaten with a 21-17 thriller over Round Rock. Oklahoma commit Samaje Perrine dashed 96 yards to paydirt with just five minutes remaining to score the clinching touchdown for the Hawks. Elgin saw star QB Te’Rel Simmons leave with an injury, but backup Kyle Snell guided an easy 70-7 win over Eastview. Manor rolled up 518 yards rushing and Tyrone Owens scored four touchdonws in a 68-0 win over Cedar Creek. Austin Lake Travis pulled their starters in the first half in an easy 47-7 win over Del Valle. Converse Judson secured its 37th consecutive winning season, smashing San Marcos 72-18. Cibolo Steele beat San Antonio East Central 38-10 as Texas Tech commit Justin Stockton rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Smithson Valley racked up their 11th consecutive win over New Braunfels Canyon 23-6. Lampassas edge Brownwood 61-56 as Steven Jazdyk threw for 299 yards and six touchdowns.
Dallas/Fort Worth:
Unbeaten Ennis earned a playoff spot with a 19-3 win over Mansfield Summit with Baylor commit Terrence Williams rushing for 94 yards and a touchdown. Junior Michael Nelson rushed for 189 yards and three scores as Garland Naaman Forest secured its first playoff berth in five years with a 21-16 win over Rowlett. Mesquite Poteet beat Terrell 46-18 as DeAndre Neal hauled in six passes for 140 yards and two scores. Arlington Lamar upset Martin 44-36 as Cameron Smith rushed for 161 yards and four tds. Junior Raymond Sheard rushed for 170 yards and four scores as Arlington beat Paschal 5-26. Keaton Perry returned from his 3rd career ACL injury and threw for 294 yards and five scores to lead Arlington Bowie past Sam Houston 69-14. Ryan Agnew completed 31/35 passes for 307 yards and three scores to lead Southlake Carroll past Keller 52-17. Xavier Turner scored seven touchdowns as part of a 221 yard night to lead Birdville past Chisholm Trail 64-30. Mansfield Junior Julius Lewis rushed for 246 yards and two scores in a 45-14 win over Grand Prairie. Desmon White, who just this week switched his commitment from North Texas to TCU, passed for 416 yards, rushed for 130 and accounted for six tds as Desoto beat Duncanville 55-29. Kyler Murray completed 20/28 for 330 yards and four scores to lead Allen past Boyd 49-26. Kijana Amous rushed for 247 yards and three scores as Mansfield Legacy edged Arlington Seguin 44-41. Aledo survived a controversial week and defeated FW Southwest 59-13 with QB Luke Bishop throwing for 311 yards and rushing for 93. Bishop Dunne Sophomore Micah Simon passed for 338 ayrds and rushed for 84, accounting for four touchdowns in a 49-14 win over John Paul II.
West Texas:
QB’s had efficient nights. Ben Arbuckle completed 19/23 passes for 311 yards and five touchdowns as Canadian beat Boys Ranch 49-20. Taylor Cornelius completed 24/28 passes for 416 yards and five touchdowns in a 69-35 Bushland win over Friona. Cornelius also rushed for three touchdowns. Big Spring’s Tobyn Tannehill was 15/19 for 248 yards and three scores, while also rushing for 102 yards and one more TD in a 65-42 win over Sweetwater. Midland High’s Ryan Gooden was 18/19 for 418 yards and five scores, while safety Britt Bolen had three interceptions and a fumble recovery as the Bulldogs edged Lubbock Coronado 63-55. Robert Johnson rushed for 175 yards and five touchdowns. Abilene Freshman Abram Smith rushed for 137 yards and three scores as the Eagles doubled up Odessa 42-21. Jarek Black rushed for 167 yards and two tds to lead Shallowater to a 35-6 win over Andrews.
Houston:
Katy sophomore Kyle Porter rushed for 198 yards and four touchdowns and the Tigers crushed Strake Jesuit 49-7. Langham Creek QB Kyle Cutbirth pases for 335 yards and three touchdown, rushed for three more scores and led LC to a 48-29 win over Cy Springs. A week after his twin brother Austin won the Ford Player of the Week award in Class 4A, Astin Walter threw for 208 yards, rushed for 96 and accounted for four touchdowns in a 58-34 win over Kingwood Park. Not to be outdone, Austin responded with 225 yard rushing and scored four times himself. The Twins are both commits to Rice. Armanti Foreman (Texas Commit) changed from WR to RB and rushed for 183 yards and two scores as unbeaten Texas City shutout Galena Park 44-0. Brett Winnegan rushed for 229 yards and one score for Pearland Dawson, but the Eagles were upset by Friendswood 31-14. Elton Dyer hauled in 213 yards of receiving and scored twice to lead South Houston to a 40-26 win over Alvin. Junior QB Jonathan Giles rushed for 133, passed for 196 and led Elkins past Bush 30-23. Demarcus Felton rushed for 371 yards, but his Spring Dekaney team was upset 27-26 by Klein. Alief Taylor shutout Aldine 47-0 as QB Remi Olonade passed for 315 yards and five scores, with 148 yards and three of the tds going to WR Romello Brooker.
East Texas:
In the most thrilling game Tyler Lee went 80 yards in the last 1:50 with no timeouts to overcome Mesquite 61-54. Whitehouse scored 30 points in the second quarter to stretch out a lead to beat Nacogdoches 43-21. John Tyler beat Jacksonville 43-30 as Geovari McCollister rushed for 186 and passed for 148. Lindale’s Aaron Jackson rushed for 220 yards and scored four tds in a 42-26 win over Corsicana. However the Tigers Devontay Bell and Donovan Fields rushed for a combined 449 yards. Sophomore Logan Fuller rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns to lead Athens past Mabank 56-14. Peter Madden passed for 336 yards and 2 scores to lead Van past Brownsboro 40-12. Sophomore Kendrick Rogers hauled in 152 yards and one touchdown in a 47-7 Frankston win over Winona.
