Dallas/Fort Worth:
Argyle kicker Cole Hedlund set a new national career record for field goals as he kicked five in Argyle’s 57-12 win over Krum. Hedlund now has kicked 51 for his high school career and with Argyle sitting in the #1 spot in Class 3A, he has a chance to get to 60 before the end of the year. Dallas Lincoln surprised Carter 30-13. Colton Hammack accounted for four touchdowns as Euless Trinity beat Marcus 49-21, Sophomore Nick Smith rushed for 192 yards and Arlington Martin edged Keller Central 21-16. Junior Juwann Washington rushed for 336 yards and six touchdowns as Kennedale beat Bukrburnett 57-28. Kenneth Arthur accounted for 297 yards of total offense and five scores as SOC eliminated Samuell 51-7. Ennis’s Baylor bound RB Terence Williams totaled 151 yards and three scores as the Lions beat Lindale 62-17. Desoto crushed Copperas Cove 62-21 as TCU commit Desmon White completed 24/30 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns. . Decatur beat Ranchview 62-34 with another TCU QB recruit Grayson Muehlstein completing 16/19 for 244 yards, while rushing for 121 on a six touchdown night.
Southlake Carroll got 164 yards rushing and four scores from A.J. Ezzard in a 56-14 win over Arlington Bowie. Scoring machine Xavier Turner scored four more times on a 246 yard rushing night and Birdville edged Nelson 36-34. 4A’s top-ranked Aledo spanked Burleson 76-6 with Jess Naders rushing for 209 yards and three scores. Sachse edged Mesquite 64-56 with Kent Myers throwing for 274 yards and five scores. Frisco Lone Star outlasted Sanger 46-42. Ramon Harris rushed for 280 yards for Lone Star and junior Tre’Von Jackson ran for 219 yards for Sanger. Cedar Hill rallied from a three touchdown halftime deficit to beat Temple 39-35. Demarkus Lodge hauled in 9 passes for 246 yards and two scores for the Longhorns. Lovejoy also rallied from a huge deficit, trailing Hallsville 48-26 midway in the third quarter, to win 55-51. Soph QB Will Reed completed 28/33 passes for 304 yards and four touchdowns as Rockwall beat Naaman Forest 41-31.
Houston:
La Marque sophomore Daquan Jones rushed for 254 yards and two tds as the Cougars smashed Kashmere 50-7. College Park surprised Klein 34-31 with soph QB Chritifer Andritos passing for 106, rushing for 170 and scoring twice. Unbeaten Katy shut out Houston Madison 70-0. Pt. Arthur Memorial whitewashed Pasadena Memorial 49-0 with sophomore RB Kameron Martin rushing for 150 yards and two tds. Cy Ridge edged Eisenhower 24-23 as Ike’s Texas bound senior RB Donald Catalon ended up his high school career with 161 rushing yards and one td. . Another Texas commit D’Onta Foreman returned to the lineup and rushed for 243 yards and four scores to lead unbeaten Texas City to a 41-19 win over Rosenberg Terry. Manvel ousted LaPorte 45-21 as sophomore QB D’Eriq King passed for 244 yards, rushed for 128 and accounted for five touchdowns. Ft. Bend Marshall beat North Forest 27-13 as juniors J.W. Ketchum and Davon Crookshank combined for 373 yards rushing and four tds. Rice bound Austin Walter rushed for 291 yards and scored six times as Crosby doubled PNG 56-28. Sweeny knocked out Worthing 54-44 but not before Worthing’s soph QB Alfred Robertson passed for 529 yards and seven touchdowns. Atascocita eliminated Lufkin 42-24 as Greg Campbell totaled 415 yards and six touchdowns. FB Bush beat Clear Creek 47-28 as Ronald Monroe passed for 183, rushed for 217 and totaled six touchdowns. Cinco Ranch edged Bellaire 50-43 with Blake Hirsch and Jonathan Lugo combining for 355 yards rushing.
Central Texas:
Defending 4A champion Cedar Park rolled over Austin Travis 64-7 as Nate Grimm ;passed for a school record 331 yards in just two quarters. Rouse got Billy McCrary back at QB from an injured thumb and McCrarry scored five times as Rouse rushed for 360 yards in a 44-14 win over LBJ. Westlake’s defense held Oklahoma bound Samaje Perrine to just 52 yards rushing and forced three second half turnovers to upset the unbeaten Pflugerville Hendrickson Hawks, 17-10. Michael McCann threw for 423 yards and four touchdowns and Cedar Ridge upset Austin Bowie 45-33. A banged up Manor got upset by Magnolia West 51-20. Lake Travis crushed Westwood 52-7, sacking Houston bound QB Bear Fenimore eight times and holding him to just 28 yards passing. Unbeaten Elgin rolled to an easy 52-10 win over Waller as Anthony Nash caught two touchdown passes and returned a kickoff 83 yards for another score. East Bernard, 2A’s top team held Jarrell to just 88 yards total offense in a 37-7 victory. A&M Consolidated outscored Kingwood 55-45 with QB Kobe Miller passing for 336 yards and Brandon Jackosn rushing for 132 . In a shocking upset in San Antonio, Johnson knocked out unbeaten and state-ranked Smithson Valley 49-45 in probably the biggest surprise in this first round. Hunter Rittiman completed 18/23 passes for 337 yards and three scores for Johnson. D’ Anthony Hopkins rushed for 155 yards and three scores to lead Cuero past Columbus 42-21. San Antonio Christian QB Andrew Hawkins passed for 417 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 40-34 loss to Katy Pope John XXIII. Waco Midway beat Mansfield 58-35 as Ben Hicks threw for 373 yards and five touchdowns.
East Texas:
West Orange-Stark got big games from QB Dillon Sterling-Cole and WR Will Johnson in a 41-9 win over Huffman Hargrave. Sterling-Cole passed for 384 yards and six touchdowns, while Johnson was on the receiving end with 159 yards in catches and four of those touchdowns Marcalas Johnson rushed for 268 yards and three scores as Arp beat Paul Pewitt 34-28. Sophomore Darrell McNight rushed for 133 yards and two scores as Gladewater shut out Canton 48-0. Unbeaten Whitehouse advanced, edging Arlington Seguin 50-44 in a dual of top flight QB’s. Patrick Mahomes passed for 195 and rushed for 211 yards for Whitehouse, while Seguins Kelton Morre passed for 287 and rushed for 211. Alto’s Jacolby Whitaker rushed for 179, intercepted a pass, and returned a 2 pt. conversion 102 yards for another score as Alto eliminated Harleton 37-20. Newton’s Brandon Foster rushed for 151 yards and three scores in the first half as Newton overwhelmed Troup 39-0. Longview’s defense forced six turnovers in a 46-21 win over Rowlett. John Tyler got surprised by Mansfield Legacy 35-14 as Legacy had three back all climb over the century mark in rushing as Legacy ran the ball 65 times during the game.
West Texas:
Odessa won the first playoff game in a long time, beating El Paso Franklin 61-15 as C.J. Eddison rushed for 384 yards and 5 touchdowns. Midland Lee beat El Paso Eldorado 47-28 as Caden Coots continued his hot hand, throwing for 381 yards and three touchdowns. Unbeaten Frenship advanced , shutting out Palo Duro 49-0 . Big Spring QB Tobyn Tannehill threw for 242 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Steers past Fabens 61-21. Freshman Kaegun Williams rushed for 291 yards and three scores to lead Stephenville to a 49-10 win over old rival Brownwood. Jarek Black rushed for 233 yards and two tds to lead Shallowater to a 42-12 win over Dalhart. Taylor Cornelius completed 21/35 passes for 341 yards and seven touchdowns and Bushland beat Slaton 49-22. Canadian’s Ben Arbuckle was near perfect with 12/14 completions for 219 yards and four scores in a 54-7 win over Olton. Littlefields Devonte Mathins rushed for 235 yards and four scores in a 44-36 win over Brownfield.
