Rockwall vs Garland Naaman Forest: 41-31 Rockwall
When these two teams met at the beginning of the season Garland Naaman Forest escaped with a 52-42 victory. This time Rockwall came away victorious thanks to quarterback Will Reed (28-33, 304 yards, 4 TDs), who completed 84 % of his passes, and his receiving core led by Jay Galloway (8 rec, 88 yards, 2 TDs) and Xavier Castille (13 rec, 161 yards, 2 TDs) who also had a 3-yard touchdown run. Naaman Forest had their share of offensive numbers as quarterback Justin Walker totaled 219 yards passing while completing only 8 passes. Running back Michael Nelson also had a good game running for 103 yards and a touchdown. Rockwall showed impressive control in the game running twice as many plays as Naaman Forest (82 to 41). Rockwall moves on to face 8-3 Dallas Jesuit.
Garland Sachse vs Mesquite: 63-56 Garland Sachse
The Mesquite Skeeters may be 5-5, but don’t let that record fool you, this team can flat out play. Garland Sachse learned their lesson after the first question as the 11-0 Mustangs were tied with the Skeeters 14-14 at the end of the first. The Mustangs offense would come alive in the second quarter led by a tremendous backfield of Kent Meyers and Devine Ozigbo to a 28-0 shutout in the quarter. Meyers, who had 6 total touchdowns, started the scoring off with a 19-yard run. It was followed by a 13-yard touchdown reception and 26-yard touchdown run by Ozigbo (21 att, 183 yards, 3 TDs,). Meyers would later find receiver Devin Duvernay for a 57-yard touchdown pass. Meyers would end the day 27 of 39, 274 yards, six total touchdowns, and two interceptions. Mesquite would respond in the second half outscoring the Mustangs 35-2, but the Mustangs kept scoring to keep the lead. Both offenses went rampant in this game combining for 1,080 total yards. Garland Sachse will continue to defend their undefeated record against the always tough 10-1 Dallas Skyline.
Dallas Jesuit vs Plano West: 48-41 Dallas Jesuit
Last year Plano West surprised everybody, as a 5-5 team they made it all the way to the state quarterfinals. This year Dallas Jesuit made sure they wouldn’t be on the wrong side of the Cinderella story, specifically Dallas Jesuit quarterback Bo Schneider. Schneider had a day to remember throwing for 509 yards and 5 touchdowns. His top targets were Orion Salters (9 rec, 228 yards, TD) and Kellen McAlone (9 rec, 187 yards, 2 TDs). Plano West wasn’t short on offense either, running backs Sotonye Jamabo and Auston Anderson combined for 400 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. West tried to rebound after a 17-0 deficit in the first quarter, but could never regain the lead back from Dallas Jesuit who will have to face another potential Cinderella team as they face 6-5 Rockwall team.
Denton Ryan vs Colleyville Heritage: 44-34 Denton Ryan
Denton Ryan may have been out gained by Colleyville Heritage 426 to 274 in yards, but the Denton Ryan defense stepped up with five turnovers. Denton Ryan started off with a bang on the third play of the game quarterback Mitchell Briggs found Trent Willis for a 73-yard touchdown pass. The defense would also find its way into the endzone with a fumble returned 32 yards for a touchdown by Reese Strait as Denton Ryan went up 21-7 at the end of the first quarter. The defense would strike again in the second quarter with a blocked returned for another touchdown by Tederick Williams. The last big turnover came in the fourth quarter with a punt returned fumbled by Colleyville Heritage ended up being a touchdown on the next drive for Denton Ryan, which would sealed the win for Denton Ryan. Colleyville Heritage quarterback Griffin Pickler had 388 yards and three touchdowns, but two interceptions blemished his fantastic game. Denton Ryan advances to play a tough 9-2 Waco Midway.
Arlington Lamar vs Justin Northwest: 36-29
Arlington Lamar may have won District 3-5A, but they still had a tough test against District 4-5A runner ups Justin Northwest. Northwest made a statement early as they were hanging with the district champs 14-14 at the end of the first quarter. Northwest would take the lead thanks to quarterback Jesse Drummer (23-37, 292 yards, 3 TDs, INT) and would hold it for the majority of the game. With a 29-21 deficit in the fourth quarter Lamar was running out of time. Lamar’s quarterback Shane Buechele (19-25, 218 yards, 3 TDs) found Landry Bray for a 9-yard score. On the ensuing kickoff Northwest fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Lamar player Marquise McClinton. Buechele would run the ball in from 14-yards out to give Lamar the lead and the win.
