DFW Area Playoffs Roundup
Dallas Skyline vs Garland Sachse: 51-10 Dallas Skyline
Garland Sachse is used to putting up 50 points on their opponents, not the other way around, but Dallas Skyline senior quarterback Sederian Copeland led the way for Skyline completing 9 of 14 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Copeland also led Skylines rushing attack, which totaled 365 yards, with 120 rushing yards and a touchdown. Kent Meyers played well completing 24 of 36 passes for 217 throwing one touchdown and one interception. Another interesting stat is that Sachses leading rusher Devine Ozigbo had -14 yards on five carries which speaks to the rushing defense of Skyline who held Sachse to 20 rushing yards, Skyline made a statement this week going into region round of the playoffs against another unbeaten team Spring Westfield.
Desoto vs Coppell: 34-30 Desoto
Last year Coppell hardly gave Desoto a game, losing 42-14. This year Coppell came ready to play. After kicking a field goal on their first possession, the Coppell defense forced Desmond White (11-18, 163 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs, 120 rush yards, 1 rush TD) to throw an interception. After the turnover, Coppell quarterback Skyler Bonneau (9-15, 100 yards, TD, INT, rush TD) found Charles West (15 att, 92 yards, TD, 1 rec, 34 yards, rec TD) for a 34 yard touchdown. Desoto would respond outscoring Coppell 20-7 including a 100-yard kickoff return by Kadarrian Nixon for Desoto. After Coppell scored in the third and again at the beginning of the fourth Desoto responded with a 51-yard pass from White to Jamal Johnson (3 rec, 84 yards, 2 TDs). Desoto would again get the ball with around four minutes remaining and marched down to the Coppell 19-yard line where White would find Kevin Thomas (3 rec, 30 yards, TD) for the go ahead touchdown with :41 seconds left to give them the 34-30 win. Desoto looks to continue their dominance in the region round against a hardy Arlington Martin team.
Frisco vs Lincoln: 24-21 Frisco
Even after losing running back Max Steitle on the first play of the game Frisco was still able to put up 270 yards on the ground and squeaked out the three point win. Lincoln jumped out to a 21-7 lead with a 7-yard run by Trevon Donnell (19-33, 159 yards, 2 TDs, 3 INTs rush TD), a 7-yard pass from Donnell to Javien Jones, and a 4-yard touchdown pass from Donnell to Derrick Neal. Frisco would respond with an 18-yard touchdown run from Sean Grogan (8 att 52 yards, TD). Frisco kept Lincoln scoreless in the second half and came back with a touchdown in the third and a in the fourth after an interception, Frisco marched down and kicked what ended up being the game winning field goal. The Frisco backfield stepped up in the absence of Steitle and will have to step again against unbeaten Ennis next week.
