Wild Friday Night In Texas (Area Round Playoffs)

rain

What a great time of the year it is. Even if it is cold and rainy outside...its still Playoff time in Texas!! Lots of greats games, wild finishes and an all-time state record broken.

* George Ranch beat Fort Bend Marshall 42-21 and LSG was there!! This was the first time I have seen George Ranch and they were very strong putting on a great show against a pretty tough Marshall team. Their defense shut down the Marshall stars and their running game dominated. George Ranch is playing their 2nd year of varsity play and will take on #7 Elgin next week.

* Carthage wins big 44-14 in a much anticipated match-up over Navasota. Navasota was the defending 3A DI Champion while Carthage won 3 in a row in 2008, 2009 & 2010.

* Magnolia West stuns Humble Summer Creek. Summer Creek led 26-12 at halftime but West score 3 unanswered touchdowns in the 2nd half to win 33-26. Look out for West, they also upset #15 Manor last week 51-20.

* A&M Consolidated rolled Austin Westlake 41-16. Earlier this season the Tigers led Westlake 21-3 at the half and ended up losing 38-32. Westlakes year ends at 7-5 which is a long way from our pre-season prediction of a state championship run. Westlake is 10-5 vs. A&M Consolidated during the regular season since 1996. They are now 2-2 in playoff games.

* Refugio beat Danbury 42-13 but the big news was that their QB Travis Quintanilla threw 3 touchdowns giving him 168 for his career breaking the record for career touchdown passes of 167 held by Graham Harrell, of Ennis. Danbury finishes the year 10-2 giving them their best season since 1970.

* Aledo continues their run to breaking the all-time scoring record with a 75-14 win over Saginaw Boswell.

* Elgin beats Crosby 56-28 in a battle of brothers. The Simmons brothers from Elgin were able to pull away late in the game to get a win over the Walters brothers from Crosby. The teams combined for 1,052 yards.

* Godley shocks #3 2A DI Tatum 40-15. Tatum led 15-13 at halftime, Goldley pulled away with 3 touchdowns in the 4th.

* Manvel wins a wild one over Fort Bend Bush 51-44. Manvel led this one 29-15 at halftime. Bush then came out in the 3rd quarter and took a 31-29 lead but Manvel responded with 2 touchdowns to go up 43-31. Bush had taken the lead 44-43 after a 97 yard drive late in the game. They left too much time on the clock though at Manvel was able to score with 6 seconds remaining to get the win. The teams combined for 1,068 yards.
