Denton Ryan vs Keller Fossil Ridge: 42-37 Denton Ryan
After escaping with a one point victory against Waco Midway last week Denton Ryan was in for another close game against Keller Fossil Ridge, who had only given up 16 points so far in the playoffs. Keller Foster Ridge started out in complete control of the game scoring the first 31 points, thanks to the steady arm of Jacob Gnacinski. Gnacinski threw for 3 touchdowns in the first half including two touchdowns to Niron Fields, his only two catches of the game. Denton Ryan came out in the second half and started a miraculous comeback, led by their signal caller Mitchell Bridges. Bridges threw for 3 straight touchdowns and ran for two more after that to seal the comeback. Bridges completed his day throwing for 201 yards and compiled 6 total touchdowns.
North Richland Hills Birdville vs Wolfforth Frenship: 26-22 North Richland Hills Birdville
North Richland Hills Birdville running back Xavier Turner continues to be unstoppable as he continues to creep closer to 3,000 rushing yards with each game. But, it was quarterback Will Hayward that saved the day for Birdville. Hayward only threw for 169 yards, but had a passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns. Wolfforth Frenship was down 19-14 lead entering the fourth quarter, but quarterback Trevor Eulenbach (7-19, 109 yards, 2 TDs) found his top receiver Trevor Lloyd (3 rec, 57 yards, TD) for a 44-yard touchdown to take the lead. After a botched punt from Frenship, Birdville moved the ball to the Frenship 1-yard line, from there they turned the ball to Xavier Turner (139 yards, TD) and on the third try he found the endzone to give Birdville the lead and the win.
Euless Trinity vs Southlake Carroll: 42-38 Euless Trinity
Last year Southlake Carroll beat Euless Trinity 16-7. This year both offenses showed up pitting the Trinity running game, led by Isaac Ellsworth and Ja’Ron Wilson, against the Carroll passing game, led by quarterback Ryan Agnew. Ellsworth and Wilson combined for 359 yards and 4 touchdowns in the game including two 50+ yard touchdown runs by Ellsworth. Agnew completed over 80 percent of his passes for 449 yards and 3 touchdowns. Carroll led 24-21 at the end of the first half and received the ball at the beginning of the 3rd quarter, but had to punt. After Carroll punted both teams traded scores until Carroll received the ball with nine minutes left in the fourth. Agnew moved his team from the Carroll 8-yard line to the Trinity 24-yard line. On a 2nd and 5 pass Agnew completed the pass to Lil’ Jordan Humphrey (19 rush yards, TD, 42 rec yards) and looked to have the first down, however the ball popped out and Trinity recovered and preceded to run the clock down to 20 seconds. Agnew threw two incompletions and a 19-yard pass to Keaton Duhon (11 rec, 105 yards) before time expired and Trinity was victorious.
Mesquite Poteet vs Whitehouse: 65-60 Mesquite Poteet
Two teams that have two top quarterbacks faced off in an offensive showdown that had 50 total first downs and 30 penalties. Whitehouse quarterback Patrick Mahomes continues his dominance over opposing secondaries this year throwing for 597 yards and 7 total touchdowns, however he did throw two interceptions, one at the end of the first half and one at the end of the second half. Mahomes had a worth adversary going up against Mesquite Poteet quarterback Lane Novy. Novy threw for 422 yards and had 6 passing touchdowns I the game. The game started off with a bang after Poteet scored on a 20-yard pass from Novy to Deandre McNeal (6 rec, 98 yards, 2 TDs). On the first play of the ensuing drive Mahomes completed a 71-yard pass to Jake Parker (10 rec, 283 yards, 4 TDs) for a touchdown. But that’s not the end of it, on the ensuing kickoff Kody Edwards (7 rec, 161, 2 TDs) took the kickoff 91-tards back for a touchdown. Both teams continue scoring throughout the game, but after Whitehouse scored late in the fourth quarter. They forced Poteet to punt with 1:39 left. After completing on a fourth and 1, Whitehouse moved to the line looking forward to a new set of downs, but Mahomes was intercepted, sealing the win for Poteet.
