Round Rock McNeil Gets Pflugerville Connally’s Howard McMahan

The Round Rock McNeil Mavericks hired Pflugerville Connally's Howard McMahan to be their next head coach. He replaces Lee Penland, who takes an admin position with the district.
Penland led the Mavericks for the past 4 years to an overall 6-34 record. Before taking the McNeil job, Penland was at Hutto from 1998-2010 where he had a 68-59 record. He was also offensive coordinator at Austin Bowie (1997-98), offensive coordinator at Austin High School (1993-97) and defensive coordinator at Austin Reagan (1992-93). He took the Hippos from Hutto to the 2005 Class 3A Division II championship game.
McMahan comes to McNeil after leading the Cougars from Connally to a 40-36 over 7 years. Before taking over at Connally he was an assistant and defensive coordinator at Copperas Cove. he also worked as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State before coming to Texas. He played linebacker for Middle Tennessee State while in college.
