Bum Phillips Bowl adds new tradition to historic rivalry

The Bum Phillips Bowl trophy was unveiled recently on 12newsnow.com and it is a fitting tribute to a legend of Texas football - O.A. "Bum" Phillips.

This trophy will be engraved and housed at the school that wins the Bum Phillips Bowl - formerly known as Mid-County Madness.  The matchup is between Nederland and Port Neches-Groves.  Both of these East Texas teams were coached by Phillips and both grew to love the man who meant so much to football in Texas.

Port Neches-Groves leads the series all-time 36-46-6 but both head coaches admit that the game usually comes down to the very last play.
