Top Defensive Line Prospects in Texas High School Football
-
Updated: August 1, 2014
In association with Elite Scouting Services we have released the Top 100 recruiting prospects. We have broken them down by position for our ongoing series. These are the best recruiting prospects across the Texas high school football world.
Defensive Line (14)
Zach Abercrumbia, Dallas Skyline, 6’3, 255
Abercrumbia is arguably the top name out of the current 2015 recruits committed to Rice. Abercrumbia, a First Team 9-5A All-District performer in 2013, selected the Owls over the likes of Colorado, Louisville, Oregon State, TCU, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, and Wisconsin.
Taaj Bakari, Mansfield Legacy, 6’2, 290
Bakari verbally committed to Oklahoma State in April and enters his senior season as one of the elite defensive prospects in District 14-5A. Bakari selected the Cowboys over the likes of Colorado State, North Texas, and TCU.
Tevin Boone, Cleburne, 6’1, 310
Boone surprisingly lacks a FBS offer heading into his senior season. The mobile defensive tackle earned First Team 8-4A All-District honors as junior after recording 118 tackles. Boone is arguably one of the top overall players in District 8-5A in 2014.
Joseph Broadnax, Dallas Adams, 5’11, 305
Broadnax registered 47 tackles and 10 sacks as a junior to garner Defensive MVP honors in District 12-4A. Broadnax verbally committed to TCU in February, selecting the Horned Frogs over a pair of in-state FBS offers.
Darrion Daniels, Dallas Bishop Dunne, 6’4, 290
Daniels was a major force on the interior line by recording 101 tackles and 24 tackles-for-loss as a junior. Daniels has over 25 FBS offers and is believed to be choosing between Arkansas, Baylor, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M.
Ross Donelly, Houston Cy-Fair, 6’2, 300
Donnelly is yet another coup on the defensive front for Rice. As a junior, Donnelly took home First Team 17-5A All-District honors. Donnelly added a recent SEC offer from Ole Miss and will likely be a hot commodity moving forward toward National Signing Day.
Bryce English, DeSoto, 5’11, 315
After a sensational All-State sophomore season for DeSoto, English was verbally committed to Texas. Despite his 71 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, and 5.5 sacks as a junior, the new staff in Austin decided to go in a different direction. UCLA won the sweepstakes, earning a verbal from English in mid-July over offers from Arizona State, Iowa, TCU, and Wisconsin.
Kingsley KeKe, Richmond George Ranch, 6’3, 290
KeKe is one of the most impressive prospects in the entire class regardless of position. The versatile George Ranch product earned First Team 23-4A All-District honors as a junior before verbally committing to Texas A&M over nearly 20 major offers. Impressive is an understatement when describing KeKe.
Du’Vonta Lampkin, Houston Cy Falls, 6’3, 290
Baylor, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma State, and Texas are believed to be in decent position to land Lampkin, a one-time Oklahoma pledge. As a junior, Lampkin recorded 69 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, and three sacks.
James Lockhart, Ennis, 6’3, 245
The Texas A&M recruiting gold rush of the summer of 2014 continues with Lockhart making the pledge in late-July to join arguably the top recruiting class nationally. The active defensive end registered 122 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles as a junior for Ennis.
Daylon Mack, Gladewater, 6’1, 310
Mack’s tape is fun to watch. The pride of east Texas, who lines up as a 310-pound fullback on occasion, recorded 97 tackles, 36 tackles-for-loss, and 8.5 sacks as a junior. The Texas A&M pledge was named Third Team 3A All-State according to the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA).
Breylin Mitchell, Round Rock, 6’4, 240
Mitchell verbally committed to TCU before his junior season. As a junior, Mitchell was named First Team 16-5A All-District after registering 90 tackles. Mitchell will be one of the top prospects in 13-6A this season, a district that does not get the credit it sometimes deserves.
Charles Omenihu, Rowlett, 6’5, 235
Omenihu has one of the highest ceilings of any player on this list. The Texas verbal earned Second Team 11-5A All-District honors after recording 50 tackles and four sacks as a junior. Omenihu will give ‘Lett Nation’ something to cheer about once again in 2014.
Carl Thompson, Denton Guyer, 6’3, 260
Some would consider Thompson’s inclusion a bit of a surprise, but his consistency and technique on tape warrant his inclusion. The recent Kansas commit earned First Team 19-5A All-District honors as a junior. His numbers were impressive, as Thompson recorded 86 tackles, 44 tackles-for-loss, and eight sacks.
