Updated: September 7, 2014
The Amarillo Sandies are off to an 2-0 start this season. Their first two games were tough test but the Sandies handled them with no problems. They opened up the year with a 45-21 victory over Top 50 in 5A Amarillo Palo Duro. In week 2, they faced a tougher opponent in #17 5A Wichita Falls Rider and they pulled out a 35-20 victory there.
Amarillo High moved back up the largest classification 6A after played 2 season in 4A (now 5A). They started the season off ranked #68 in 6A. They have always played Palo Duro close as they now hold an all-time 34-21-2 game edge over them. Rider has won the contest the last 2 years though. Their 2013 game was a classic though as Rider won 45-44 in double overtime.
What his the Sandies key to success. Run the football!!! Through 2 games, they have only completed one pass on the season but have rushed for 770 yards. The Golden Sandstorm looks to be well on its way to their 6th consecutive winning season where they now have an overall record of 43-19.
