2014 Texas High School Football Week Five Highlights
Central Texas:
Tajh Maloy scored three touchdowns to power Hendrickson past McNeil 40-13. Former 5A #2 Cedar Park took down current #3 Georgetown 31-28 as the Hutchins twins, Chris and Thomas, scored three times and the Timberwolves overcame a double digit deficit. In a battle of unbeaten Vista Ridge knocked of Georgetown East View 35-32 as Rangers junior QB Matt Snow rushed for 308 yards and two scores. Another Junior QB , Hutto’s Tyler Herrick threw for five touchdowns and rushed for another as the Hippos shut out Pflugerville Connally 44-0. One week after stunning Cedar Park, Dripping Springs ran into TCU commit Brennen Wooten and the Marble Falls QB passed for 413 yards and totaled four touchdowns to lead the Mustangs to a 35-14 vicory. LBJ smashed Austin Reagan 62-0 as QB Avery Jackson passed for three scores and rushed for two more. Class 4A La Grange remained unbeaten, beating Fredricksburg 34-7 as Bralon Hutchinson and JK Dobbins each rushed for over 120 yards. In San Antonio Cibolo Steele beat Smithson Valley 31-20 as LG Wilims threw for 119, rushed for 79 and totaled 3 tds. Dalton Banks threw for 126 yards and two tds, rushed for 135 and 3 tds, and led Alamo Heights to a 52-20 win over Lockhart. Boerne’s Qunton Dormady (Tennessee commit) threw for 260 yards and two tds and the Greyhounds beat Sonora 21-13.
Dallas/Fort Worth:
Mesquite Poteet knocked off Rockwall Heath 25-14 as two way star DeAndre McNeal caught four passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns, and also registered three sacks on defense. Sophomore Eno Benjamin scored five touchdowns, including the game winner with 4:09 remaining as Wylie East rallied to a 49-46 win over McKinney North. Oklahoma bound Ronald Jones rushed for 393 yards and scored six touchdowns for North. DFW’s leading rusher Michael Nelson rushed for 235 yards and four scores to lead Naaman Forest to a 42-21 win over North Garland. Sophomore QB Jason Selley accounted for five touchdowns and 300 yards of offense as Frisco Lone Star beat Little Elm 56-14. Keshawn Mitchell rushed for 281 yards, and four touchdowns, threw a 41 yard pass and snagged two passes as Fossil Ridge beat Justin Northwest 52-42. That offset a monster game by Northwests’ Emmanual Moore, who caught 11 passes for 220 yards and five touchdowns, and also returned the game’s opening kickoff 71 yards. Denton’s Xavier Scott rushed for 142 yards and three tds. In a 50-14 win over Chisholm Trail. Jameson Carson rushed for 272 yards and a score as Brewer edged Wichita Falls Old High 28-24. North Crowley beat Paschal 60-41 as QB Given Tippens-Hill completed 18/27 passes for 339 yards and six touchdowns. Ja’Ron Wilson rushed for 178 yards and two TDs as Euless Trinity shut out Colleyville Heritage 14-0. Juwann Washington had four rushing touchdowns as Kennedale pounded Dallas Carter 70-21. Soph QB Jaylin Nelson threw for 225 and rushed for 90 as DeSoto shutout Grand Prairie 53-0. Junior Jett Duffey threw for 251 yards and 4 tds, while rushing for another 123 and one more td as Mansfield Lake Ridge won a shootout with Waxahachie 72-55. The Wallace brothers (sophomores) were at it again for FW South Hills in a 72-13 win over Northside. QB Tracin Wallace completed 9/10 passes for 22 tds and five touchdowns, while rushing for 115 and three more scores. Twin brother Tylan Wallace caught three of those passes for 113 yards and three of the touchdowns.
East Texas:
There were a number of shockers in East Texas starting with Nacogdoches upset of 5A #2 Lufkin 38-35. It was the first time since 1930/1931 that Nacogdoches had beaten the Panthers in back to back years. In Class 2A 15th ranked Alto shocked 2nd ranked Tenaha 72-14 in Tenaha. Alto racked up 418 yards in the first half alone enroute to the victory. Gladewater got two safeties as a margin of victory in a 25-21 upset of Kilgore. John Tyler pounded Whitehouse 52-17 as QB Geovari McCollister totaled 369 yards and six scores. Michael Goodwin tossed five touchdown passes to lead Bishop Gorman to a 42-17 win over Dallas Shelton. In another Private school game, Brook Hill beat Dallas Christian 23-20 as Caleb Chadwell kicked three field goals and tw extra points. Led by Dezmond Chumley’s four first half touchdowns, Longview smashed cross town rival Pine Tree 66-13. Jamaal Evans rushed for 159 yards to lead Corsicana past Lindale 24-23. Brentavian Henderson rushed for 177 yards and three scores as Bullard knocked off White Oak 42-9. In what has to be one of the best overall performances in recent memory, Marcus Dowell scored almost every possible way to lead Malakoff past Scurry Rossery 68-12. Dowell recovered a fumble and scored on a 1 yard run on the next play, added an 8 yard scoop and scored on defense, and blocked a punt for a safety—all in the first quarter. Later he added a 5 yard touchdowns run and caught a 58 yard touchdown pass. On Saturday, Gilmer’s offense scored on the first play from scrimmage—the only play they ran in the first quarter—and the Buckeye defense recorded three defensive scores as the Buckeyes rolled to a 27-0 first quarter lead enroute to a 58-21 whipping of Carthage.
Houston:
In a real shootout, some of which was shown on Fox Sports SW Friday night TV show, Channelview scored 30 points in the third quarter to beat Port Arthur Memorial. Channelview QB Jalen Hurts passed for 373 yards and four touchdowns, and rushed for 181 yds and scored five rushing touchdowns. On the other side, Titan RB’s Corey Dauphine and Kameron Martin ran wild, Dauphine rushing for 282 yards and two scores while Martin rushed for 129 yards and four scores. Katy pounded district rival Katy Taylor 50-7 as Oklahoma bound Rodney Anderson rushed for 227 yards and three scores. Jacorey Aleem scored three first half touchdowns as Cy Fair routed Cy Lakes 71-0. Courtney Lark hauled in three touchdown passes to lead Bellaire past Reagan 35-28. Chase Hildreth completed 18/23 pases for 310 yards and five ouchdowns as Clear Creek beat Clear Brook 67-21. JT Granato threw for 227 yards and five scores as Kinkaid beat Irving Cistercian 62-21. Junior QB Nate Edmonds scored three times and Justin Pratt rushed for 151 yards and Klein Collins beat Klein Oak 28-6. Xavier Jones had 213 yards and three trips to paydirt as Spring remained unbeaten, edging Dekaney 32-26. Elkins forced turnovers on three consecutive possessions to defeat Texas City 20-6. Saturday night heroics would be hard to top the two headed monster of Katy Seven Lakes. Braeden Moore scored three touchdowns in the first 14 minutes of the game, then turned it over to Bryan Moore who tallied four times. Moore had 92 yards rushing and 189 yards receiving and four touchdowns, while West rushed for 98 yards and caught passes for 99. State-ranked Pearland beat South Houston 49-7 as QB Jake Blumrick was a near perfect 9/10 passing for 261 yards and two scores. E.J. Davis rushed for 302 yards and four touchdowns as Alief Elsik edged Kempner 32-28.
West Texas:
Amarillo Tascosa’s Jacob Biggers rushed for 180 yards and four tds in a 33-16 win over Amarillo Palo Duro. Wichita Falls Rider beat Saginaw 35-21 as Desmond Jackson threw for 255 yards and two tds. Sophomore RB Devin Jonson rushed for 144 yards and three scores as Abilene Cooper edged Midland Lee 27-23. Crosstown rival Abilene High wasn’t as fortunate, running into a Southlake Carroll buzzsaw 63-28. Ryan Agnew threw for 251 yard for the Dragons, while Lil’Jordan Humphrey rushed for 117 and Zach Farrar caught seven of Agnews passes for 173. Vincent Johnson rushed for 332 yards and scored 6 tds to lead Lubbock Monterey to a 77-59 shootout victory over Amarillo Caprock. Lubbock Estacado stepped up a class to knock off Lubbock High 48-18. Shallowater's Cooper Ogle rushed for 193 yards and two tds, as the Mustangs beat Idalou 28-17. In El Paso Justin Maese completed 14 of 24 passes for 300 yards and two scores as Ysleta edged Bel Air 28-27. Q Drennan of El Paso Americas threw for 224 yards , rushed for 110 and totaled five touchdowns in a win over Eastwood.
