2014 Texas High School Football Week Six Highlights

West Texas:
In a big QB shootout, Andrews bested Big Spring 43-42. Andrews QB Jase Hammack completed 26/31 for 416 yards and five touchdowns, while Big Spring’s Tobyn Tannehill totaled 458 yards and four scores. Previous Ford Player Week Kohlton Ehlers totaled 300 yards and three scores to lead Lubbock Cooper to a 46-15 win over Amarillo Caprock. Amarillo Palo Duro beat Lubbock Monterey 55-41 as Anthony McClain rushed for 190 yards and four tds. In El Paso, Americas beat Montwood 28-17 as Q Drennon ran for 166 yards and three scores. El Pasp Bowie beat El Paso Austin 42-10 as Ryan Gonzalez rushed for 202 yards and two scores. Junior QB Mark Torrez led Eastwood to a 42-14 win over Coronado, throwing for 214 yards, rushing for 102 and totaling 4 touchdowns.
Central Texas:
Austin Bowie turned in the big upset in Central Texas, holding Westlake without and offensive touchdown, 19-13. Lake Travis welcomed back QB Dominic Deliro (Iowa State commit) as Deliro completed 15/20 passes for 279 yards and five touchdowns in a 51-14 win over Kyle Lehman. Hays Consolidated beat Austin Anderson 27-14 with a two headed rushing attack from Cody Gandy (192) and Braelon Kent(127). San Antonio Alamo Heights smacked San Marcos 43-7 with Dalton Banks completing 17/32 passes for 189 yards, rushing for 68 and totaling three touchdowns. Cibolo Steele shutout district rival Schertz Clemens with LG Williams totaling 237 yards and three scores. SA Madison beat SA Lee 34-27 as Nate Davis rushed for 220 yards and two scores. UTSA commit D’Anthony Hopkins rushed for 271 yards and five touchdowns to lead Cuero to a 62-31 win over Giddings. Boerne Champion beat Kerrville Tivy 42-33 but Tivy QB Cade Dyal threw for 426 yards and four scores
Dallas/Fort Worth:
In a real shootout FW Paschal edged Weatherford 52-45. Dylan Thomas had 370 all purpose yards for Paschal while Weatherford QB Bryce Burks threw for 521 yards and six scores. Isaiah Duarte rushed for 240 yards on only 15 carries, but scored five times to lead Birdville to a 49-13 win over Eastern Hills. Shane Buechele totaled 379 yards to lead Arlington Lamar to a 41-38 squeaker over Bowie. Xavier Scott rushed for 331 yards and scored five times to lead Denton to a 47-43 win over Boswell. Denton Guyer beat Justin NW 43-13 as QB Shawn Robinson completed 15/22 for 311 scores, and Alex Honey hauled in five of those passes for 152 yards. Southlake Carroll edged Coppell 28-24 with Lil’Jordan Humphrey rushing for 113 yards and Parker Fentriss catching nine passes for 133 yards. Jess Anders scored six times to lead Aledo to a 55-27 win over Burleson Central.
East Texas:
John Tyler scored four touchdowns on returns in a a 76-13 spanking of Lindale. Unbeaten Arp scored twice on interception returns and Marcalas Johnson scored twice himself as the Tiger smothered Winona 63-6. Whitehouse rallied for 21 fourth quarter points but couldn’t overcome Lufkin 52-45. Whitehouse QB Jackson Allen completed 43/66 passes for 413 yards in a losing cause. Hardin Jefferson rallied to upset Tatum 21-14. Longview scored on five of their first six possessions plus a defensive touchdowns in a 56-7 run away over Greenville.
Houston:
Some big rival games highlighted the schedule. In their first meeting ever, Pearland beat cross town rival Dawson 15-6 in a bruising defensive battle. The two teams combined for only 24 first downs, but the Oilers never punted. Spring Westfield knocked Spring from the ranks of unbeaten 38-37. Latevious Downs rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns for the Mustangs. Clear Springs beat Clear Lake 42-6 as Matt Guidry rushed for 109 yards and passed for 257. Cy Woods beat Cy Creek 35-21 as RJ Harmon rushed for 166 and backfield mate C.J. Jones rushed for 110 and three scores. Oak Ridge started five drives in Conroe territory and scored touchdowns on all in a 56-15 victory. Summer Creek beat Kingwood 46-24 as QB Zachery Walker threw for 244 yards and four touchdowns. Beaumont Westbrook knocked off Channelview 49-42 as Demarcus Smith ran for 219 yards and five touchdowns. Gary Haynes caught three touchdown passes and returned a punt 70 yards to paydirt as Manvel beat SoHO 52-7. The Woodlands overcame three interceptions with stingy defense of their own in a 24-14 win over Atascocita.
