Canutillo Eagles Make Playoff History
-
Updated: November 30, 2014
The Canutillo Eagles beat Azle in the 3rd round of the playoffs advancing them to the Quarterfinals. This is the first time in Texas High School Football history that an El Paso area team has ever advanced past the third round of the playoffs.
Two other El Paso schools made the Regionals this year but both El Paso Del Valle and El Paso Eastlake lost in their 5A playoff games.
The Eagles are currently ranked #25 in our end of the Regular Season Rankings. They have a 12-1 record with their only loss coming to 6A El Paso power El Paso Franklin in week 1. Since that loss, they have won 12 in a row by an average score of 43-11.
Canutillo is not usually mentioned when you talk about the top teams in Texas but Head Coach Scott Brooks now has his team on a 10 year winning streak going 81-34 during that time. Before the season started, Coach Brooks ranked #426 on the all-time coaching wins list with a 98-69 record all at Canutillo.
We here at LSG got some grief at the start of the season when we predicted history and picked the Eagles to face Wichita Falls Rider in the Quarterfinals. Rider did not make it losing to Canyon Randall in the 3rd Round after they went Division I instead of our predicted Division II. The Eagles will face Everman in the Quarterfinals who beat Eastlake in the Regionals.
Congrats Eagles And Good Luck!!
