2014 Texas High School Football Bi-District Playoff Highlights

Central Texas:
Cedar Park got 177 rushing yards from Thomas Hutchings and knocked out previously unbeaten Boerne Champion 49-27. Junior Tyler Herrick rushed for 160 yards and completed 19/22 passes for 240 to lead Hutto past Waller 39-17. Kerrville Tivy knocked off Georgetown East View 35-17 as Wyatt Trahan rushed for 132 yards. State-ranked La Grange got 206 rushing yards on only 14 carries from sophomore J.K. Dobbins and 202 all- purpose yards (on just 12 touches) from Texas State bound Bralon Hutchinson and the Leopards beat Orangefield 49-17. Waco Midway rolled up 600 yards of total offense and ground out a 35-28 win over Highland Park. Eric Clayburn rushed for 203 yards and Ben Hicks threw for 311 for the winners. Jaylon Dukes rushed for 95 yards and scored three times to lead SA Brandeis past Johnson 38-10. Cuero beat Navarro 42-20 as UTSA commit D’Anthony Hopkins rushed for 311 yards and five touchdowns. Yoakum’s Tre-Vontae Hights (TCU commit) rushed for 273 yards and four tds in a 44-27 win over the Devine War Horses. Sinton beat Hondo 38-9 as Tyler Handson rushed for 166 and threw for 125.
On Saturday, SA Reagan knocked out SA Stevens 38-31 as soph QB Kellen Heard completed 15/21 passes for 212 yards and 3 tds. Cibolo Steele ended SA Brennan’s run back to a state title game, with a 24-12 win sparked by Jaylen Hunts 104 yards rushing and two tds. Austin LBJ upset Alamo Heights 20-13, scoring twice in the first half on a fumble return and punt return for touchdowns. Leander Vandegrift beat Lockhart 42-13 as Jamie Hudson rushed for 193, threw for 78, and accounted for five touchdowns.
Dallas/Fort Worth:
In a battle of state ranked 4A teams, Kennedale outlasted Athens 30-26, despite a combine 299 rushing yards from the Fullers (Travon and Logan). Kennedale star RB Juwann Washington (San Diego State commit) rushed for 268 yards and three scores for the winners. Dallas South Oak Cliff beat Marshall 55-35 as Texas commit Jordan Stevenson rushed for 268 yards and three scores, while TCU commit J.F. Thomas caught six passes for 182 yards and four tds. Taylor Thompson dashed 74 yards to paydirt inside the two minute mark and Ennis edged Mansfield Timberview 17-13. Jordan Hoy rushed for 200 yards and four touchdowns to lead Rockwall Heath past Wylie 44-6. Jarrison Stewart had 126 yards receiving, including a 77 yard screen pass for the clinching touchdown and Mesquite Horn beat Rowlett 34-22. Arlington Martin beat Amarillo High 56-35 with Nic Smith rushing for 317 yards and five tds. Aledo’s Ryan Newsome and Isaiah Mallory combined for 329 yards rushing and six touchdowns and the Bearcats ousted Denton high 49-17. Everman squeaked by Wichita Falls 21-20 with Kierre Crossley rushing for 225 yards and two scores. Mansfield Lake Ridge squeaked by Longview 37-35 as junior QB Jett Duffey threw for 415 yards.
On Saturday, there were several heavyweight fights between title contenders. Defending champion Allen continued their mastery over DeSoto , edging the Eagles 25-22. DeSoto’s defense held Kyler Murray under 100 yards passing and prevented him from throwing a td pass for the first time in two years, but came up just short when Sawyer Williams booted a 25 yard field goal on the last play of the game. Southlake Carroll outscored Denton Guyer 58-42 in a real shootout. Carroll QB Ryan Agnew threw for 238 yards, junior RB Lil’Jordan Humphrey rushed for 174 to overcome Guyer sophomore QB Shawn Robinson who passed for 390 yards and rushed for 101. Defending champion Cedar Hill downed McKinney Boyd 50-28 as Justin McMillan (LSU commit) threw for 256 and Aca’Cedric Ware (USC commit) rushed for 209 yards. Euless Trinity knocked out Plano West 49-31, rushing for 396 yards as a team. Ja’Ron Wilson rushed for 109 yards and three scores for the Trojans, while West’s So So Jamabo ended his high school career with a 192 yard/two touchdown performance. Rockwall’s Xavier Castille turned in a 307 yard offensive performance, and intercepted two passes to lead the Jackets past Dallas Jesuit 48-27. Dallas Skyline smashed Belton 49-7 with KC Williams.
Houston:
Katy muscled its way past Memorial 76-14 with Oklahoma commit Rodney Anderson rushing for 225 yards on just 14 carries and scoring three times. Manvel pounded Fort Bend Travis 76-23 as D’Eriq King passed for 240 yards and rushed for 84. Dickinson remained unbeaten, knocking out Pearland 35-21 as Cameron Martin threw for 237 yards to seven different receivers. Cy Fair upset heavy favorite Houston Lamar 17-12, holding Lamar without an offensive touchdown. Angleton beat Dayton 32-31 in overtime as Dyshawn Franklin rushed for 172 yards and scored the decisive two point conversion in overtime, the only time Angleton led all night. Micah Long threw for 282 yards and four touchdowns to lead Galena Park North Shore to a 45-20 win over Clear Springs. West Orange Stark beat Giddings 34-14 as Grant LaPoint-Teate rushed for 184 yards and Trey Baldwin scored three touchdowns. El Campo scored 28 unanswered points and knocked out defending state champion Carthage 28-21.
On Saturday, District 16/5A swept all the 6A Austin area teams out of the playoffs. Spring turned back two fourth quarter red zone threats to end Austin Lake Travis' title hopes. 34-28. Klein Collins knocked out Round Rock 21-12 as Justin Pratt rushed for 135 yards, boosting his season total to 2240 and counting. Spring Westfield rolled up 250 yards rushing to beat Pflugerville Hendrickson and Klein Oak knocked out Austin Bowie 25-18. Pearland Dawson edged Friendswood 28-26, scoring two third quarter touchdowns and stopping a Friendswood two-point play with just 49 seconds remaining. Fort Bend Ridge Point went for it on 4th down early and often, never punted and held C.E. King’s 2000 yard rusher Trayvion Williams to just 33 yards in a 24-3 win over King. George Ranch’s Darius Anderson rushed for 225 yards and three tds and Xavian Marks rushed for 165 yards and GR eliminated Kingwood Park 35-14.
East Texas:
Tyler John Tyler beat Mansfield Summit 44-27 as Jeremy Wilson rushed for 159 yards and a touchdown, the fifth consecutive game Wilson has topped the century mark. Union Grove remained unbeaten in Class 2A , edging Lovelady 14-7. Jason Reese rushed for 207 yards and two scores to lead Gladewater past 2013 state finalist Fairfield 34-16. The Bears will next face Gilmer who routed Waco Connally 80-21. McLane Carter threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns in the first half for the Buckeyes. Alto QB Keenan Johnson rushed for 233 yards and scored five times as the Jackets beat Ore City 65-29. Unbeaten Navasota beat Tyler Chapel Hill 49-28 as Zach Walters caught three touchdown passes and Davon Jernigan caught two. Arp’s season came to an end with a 35-28 defeat by Gunter. Marcalas Johnson rushed for 207 yards, but the Tigers turned it over three times, twice resulting in TDs by Gunter. Tatum beat Coldspring-Oakhurst 35-12 as Deyante Roberson caught two td passes amidst several other big plays.
West Texas:
Wichita Falls Rider beat Fort Worth Arlington Heights 41-23 as Desmond Jackson threw for 171 yards, rushed for 69 and totaled four touchdowns. Stephenville got Jarrett Stidham (Texas Tech commit) back off the injury list in a big way, outscoring Lubbock Estacado 69-60. Stidham completed 18/25 for 341 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing for an additional 181 yards and three more touchdowns. Odessa Permian overcame a 21-0 first quarter deficit to beat Amarillo Tascosa 49-28 with Brandon Bailey rushing for 299 yards and three scores. Shallowater ousted Boyd 49-35 as Cooper Ogle rushed for 135 and scored four touchdowns. In El Paso, Steven Montez passed for 224 yards, rushed for 239, and accounted for four touchdows in a 38-17 win over Amarillo Palo Duro.
