2014 CLASS 4A DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Gilmer vs. West Orange-Stark

Gilmer Buckeyes (15-0) vs. West Orange-Stark Mustangs (13-2)

Noon Friday, AT&T Stadium, Arlington

Gilmer was ranked #3 and West Orange-Stark #7 in our end of the regular season polls

In our pre-season predictions, we had Gilmer falling to Celina in the Semifinals but Gilmer dominated them last week. As we said in our article last week, We had West Orange-Stark ranked high but had them falling to either La Marque or La Grange.....they defeated both of them to get here.

Gilmer BuckeyesMike Says: This is a game that may be the best of the state championship games. West Orange-Stark comes in strong after knocking off the #1 and #2 ranked teams. Gilmer comes in with a high flying offense led by QB Mclane Carter and a young defense that has 3 Juniors and a Sophomore leading their team in tackles. Carter has 3,719 yards passing on the season and is #9 in this years passing leaders list. He has thrown 46 touchdowns compared to only 2 interceptions. The Mustangs will need their very good secondary to have another great game. I was leaning towards the Mustangs but after what Gilmer did to Celina last week. The BUCKEYES win their 3rd state championship with a 42-27 victory!!

Gilmer BuckeyesChris Says: I said all I have to say about Gilmer in my article this week. They appear unstoppable.  Yes, West Orange-Stark has been playing lights out and will make it a game, but I just can't see anything stopping Gilmer.  I know, I said that a few years back when it looked like Cuero was poised for a championship run - they ran into a very similar WOS team that completely dismantled the Gobbers.  This Buckeyes' team however, looks even better.  BUCKEYES win 65-42!!

Who do you think will win?
