Bremond Wins 2A DII Championship With Come From Behind Win

The Bremond Tigers came from behind to win the Class 2A Division II Championship 28-21 vs. the Albany Lions at AT&T Stadium. The Tigers were down 21-7 before scoring 3 times late in the 2nd half to get the victory. This was the Tigers 2nd championship win in 6 tries. Their previous win was for the 1981 Class 1A Championship.
Albany led at half 14-7. Bremond was hanging close but went 0 for 4 on 3rd downs and lost 2 fumbles. They had outgained Albany 176-155. The 2nd half started a little better for the Tigers when they got an interception to open up the 3rd quarter. The drive stalled though deep in Albany territory and they turned the ball over on downs inside the Albany 20 for the 2nd time in the game. With 5 minutes left in the 3rd, the Lions took a 21-7 lead after they recovered a fumble at the Bremond 17 yard line. In the 4th quarter, the momentum shifted and Bremond was able to start moving the ball. They scored their 1st of 3 touchdowns with 8:13 left in the game to make the score 21-14. The Lions went 3 and out and gave the ball back to Bremond with 7:10 remaining. It only took Bremond 7 plays before QB Roshauud Paul scored from 35 yards out to tie the score at 21. Albany went 3 and out again and Paul scored again for the Tigers with 1:12 left to take the lead 28-21. Albany made it to the Bremond 33 when the time ran out.
The games defensive MVP was Bremond's Joe Williams and the offensive MVP was QB Roshauud Paul. Williams had a pass breakup and 2 interceptions. Paul finished the game with 149 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Look for these 2 schools to be back. Bremond had only 5 seniors while Albany only had 4 on their team. The attendance for the game was 8,175.
