Class 6A:
Division I
Allenwill face Cypress Ranch in the title game next Saturday. The Eagles stretched their winning streak to 42 with a come from behind 52-34 win over Dallas Skyline. Skyline had raced to a 28-10 lead on the strength of three Savon Rollinson touchdowns, but lost star QB KC Johnson to a broken thumb late in second quarter. Allen’s comeback featured five consecutive touchdown drives with Kyler Murray throwing touchdown passes to Lee Morris on three straight possessions. Murray finished with 406 yards passing and 115 yards rushing. Cy Ranch , in only their fifth year of existence, took down Converse Judson 38-31. Collin Rock threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 93 yards and two more scores.
Division II
It will be a Katy vs. Cedar Hill matchup for the third year in a row, with Cedar Hill returning as the defending champion. Katy edged Cibolo Steele 27-20 in overtime, with Rodney Anderson scoring from eight yards out to provide the margin. The Tigers overcame an uncharacteristic three turnover/10 penalty game and forced overtime with a 35 yard Kris Perez field goal with just three seconds remaining. Aca’Cedric Ware and Denvre Daniels combined for 335 yards rushing and eight touchdowns as Cedar Hill ran past Spring Westfield 64-33. The Longhorns put the game away scoring 28 unanswered points in the middle two quarters.
Class 5A:
Division I
It will be Bearkats vs. Wildcats in the title game as defending champion Aledo will play tradition rich Temple. Temple posted its second 70 point output of the season by rolling over Austin Vandegrift 76-35, ending the Vipers best ever season in only their fifth campaign. Temple rolled up 882 yards of offense with Marques Hatcher and Jeff Carr each rushing for 175 yards. Temple put the game out of reach, scoring touchdowns on each of its four first quarter possessions, with no drive lasting more than two minutes. Defending champion Aledo cruised by Tyler John Tyler 44-14, bottling up QB Geovari McCollister, while dominating possession with a 376 yard rushing attack . The Bearkats threw only six passes all afternoon and both Luke Bishop and Jess Anders topped the century mark on the ground.
Division II
Cedar Park will meet Ennis in the Division II final next weekend. Cedar Park rallied from 14 down to beat Crosby 49-21 at DKR Stadium in Austin. Cedar Park sophomore Jav Guidry had two big plays in the first half, an 80 yard touchdown run after Crosby had jumped off to a two touchdown lead, and a 90 yard interception return to set up a touchdown run by Thomas Hutchings right before halftime . Guidry also added an interception in the second half and freshman brother Elijah sealed the game with an interception of his own on the last play of the game. Ennis eliminated Canutillo, the first El Paso area team to ever make the state semi’s 41-13. Cousins Donta and Taylor Thompson led the way, Dontae catching eight passes for 157 yards and a touchdown, while Taylor had seven catches for 80 yards and two scores. Ennis will go for its fifth state title , while Cedar Park won its only crown two years ago.
Class 4A:
Division I
Unbeatens Navasota and Argyle will battle for the Division I crown next week. Navasota spotted Liberty Hill an early 14 point lead, as the Panthers scored touchdowns on their first four possessions of the first half. Navasota roared back to scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to beat the Panthers 49-26 at McLane Stadium in Waco. Rattler QB Shelton Eppler threw six touchdown passes, running his season total to 67, while Baylor commit Trendavian Dickson set a national record with his 35th td reception of the season. Argyle needed a 19 yard field goal from Caleb Hill with 1:23 remaining, Hill’s third of the game, to turn back Graham 23-20. The Eagles still needed an interception with seven seconds remaining to seal it.
Division II
Gilmer will face West Orange-Stark next week for the Division II title. The high scoring Gilmer Buckeyes didn’t disappoint, hanging a 67-14 defeat on Celina. Gilmer’s first nine touchdown drives all lasted three plays or less as the Buckeyes ran their season scoring total to 915 points, second only in state records to Aledo’s 1023 in 2013. Baylor bound Blake Lynch scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and McLane Carter threw five touchdowns passes. The Stark Mustangs overcame Sinton 42-21 as soph QB Jack Dallas threw for 122 yards and junior Trey Baldwin scored two touchdowns.
Class 3A:
Division I
Mineola will face Cameron Yoe in the Division I title game. Mineola knocked off unbeaten Shallowater 42-27, while defending champion Yoe beat Edna 70-34. Mineola, with the youngest team in the field, gained their first trip to the finals as soph Chantz Perkins rushed for 360 yards and three touchdowns. Cameron Yoe broke out of a 36-34 halftime margin to route the Cowboys in the second half. Reid Nickerson passed for 280 yards and six touchdowns.
Division II
Waskom will face Newton in an expected track meet for the Division II title. Waskom edged Sonora 25-21 while Newton beat Blanco 48-21. Newton scored 27 unanswered points and Jaron Hanks rushed for 145 yards . Waskom needed a 99 yard drive with four minutes remaining to beat Sonora. Dillon Benton’s 71 yard dash to paydirt gave Waskom their first lead of the night. Kevin Johnson rushed for 134 yards but Waskom still had to stop Sonora on the three yard line as time expired.
Class 2A:
Division I
Canadian ousted Mart 49-14 and Mason beat Centerville 27-7. Canadian dominated from the start, with 481 total yards and six scoring drives over 70 yards. Canadian held Mart’s D’Nerian Thomas to a season low 71 yards. Mason rolled to a 27-0 lead and cruised by Centerville.
Division II
Albany beat Seagraves 24-14 in a battle of unbeatens, while Bremond beat Tenaha 32-29. Albany took to the air, with QB Drew Neece throwing for 162 yards and three scores, while Seagraves Cory Kyle closed out his season with 148 yards, giving him 3129 for the year. Bremond gained revenge, having seen Tenaha eliminate them three years in a row. Roshaund Paul rushed for 200 yards and two Tds for Bremond, but had to leave the game in the third quarter with an injury. No word yet on his availability for next week’s state championship game.
Class 1A:
Crowell won Division I 62-16 over May as Mitchell Parsley threw for four touchdowns, rushed for two, and returned an interception for another. Throckmorton won Division II with a 66-20 win over Groom. Casey Mitchell turned five carries into 168 yards and four touchdowns as Throckmorton won for the third time in four years.
