CC Calallen Looks to Rebound in 2015
The Corpus Christi Calallen Wildcats had a little bit of a down year in 2014. They finished the season with a 7-5 record, coming in 4th in the district with a 5-3 district record and making it to the Area round of the playoffs. That sounds pretty good but this is the Calallen Wildcats. They have 31 consecutive winning seasons (7th all-time) and have had 10+ win seasons 25 of last 29 years. The Wildcats are 124-11 in district play since 1994 and have had 25 consecutive bi-district wins in the playoffs.
Head Coach Phil Danaher is one of the state's all-time winningest coaches. His coaching record (407-103-4) puts Danaher in 2nd place - just behind G.A. Moore with 425 coaching wins. (All-Time Coaching Wins)
Eight (8) all-district players return for 2015. Only two (2) of those are defensive players where the Wildcats are usually strongest.
Returning All-District Players
Offensive Newcomer of the Year
SOPH Gaige Lamb
1st Team
SOPH WR John Gaddis
JR TE Kale Emshoff
JR OL Matt Cade
2nd Team
JR WR Phil Hobbs
JR WR Ryder Duff
JR DL Moneeb Ullah
JR DB Kalani Ibarra
Expect another winning season at Calallen. It will not be easy to win the district though as the top teams look to include Victoria West and Corpus Christi Flour Bluff. There should be a pretty big drop off after those teams.
