Is Wooten the Final Piece of Bobcat’s Puzzle?

San Angelo Central Keeps Getting Stronger

The San Angelo Central Bobcats are enjoying some of the best football in their 107 year history. They just finished the season with an 11-2 mark and went 5-0 in the district referred to as the “Little Southwest Conference.” Once in the playoffs, they made it to the Regionals for the first time since 2003.

In addition, the Bobcats have won 21 games over the past 2 seasons which is the 3rd most in school history. They won 22 in 1965 & 1966 and they won 25 in 1943 & 1944.

The 2015 season already has its up and downs. The down are that they will be losing 15 all-district players including the District Offensive MVP in Braden Hucks and the District Defensive MVP in Eli Howard. Hucks had one of the best seasons statistically in school history (3,070 yards passing, 1,339 rushing, 54 total TDs).

The Bobcats have more positive than negative going for them however.  One up is that they return 8 all-district players including 7 them on the defensive side of the ball.

Another really big up for them is that they got a highly recruited transfer in. Marble Falls quarterback Brennen Wooten (Class of 2016) will be playing his football at Central this year. Offensive Coordinator, Kevin Crane has to be excited about the addition of Wooten under center. Wooten is verbally committed to play for TCU after throwing for 3,228 yards and 24 TDs last year.

Head Coach Brent Davis has to be pleased with the changes in San Angelo.  He has compiled a 43-26 record at Central after inheriting an 0-10 team in 2009. He has an All-Time Coaching record of 144-84-1 after being the head coach at Banquete, Sinton, The Colony and Alice before coming to Central.

2015 looks to be another solid year for Davis and the Bobcats.  The addition of Wooten at QB combined with a solid core of returning players could make for another deep run.
