Cypress Woods' Determined to Reach Postseason

Houston- The #80 Cypress Woods Wildcats continued their scoring outbreak on Thursday night at the Berry Center beating the #76 Cypress Fairbanks Bobcats 44-7.  On the back of every Cy Woods player's jersey is 212° - the boiling point of water.  The idea is that that one extra degree makes all the difference.  The team started 1-4 and appeared to have no shot at a playoff run.  The team has turned things up a degree and started winning.  They are now 4-4 overall and have won the past three district games putting their playoff hopes alive and well.

Behind junior quarterback Bryson Powers and junior running back C. J. Jones the Wildcats look to secure a playoff spot in District 17-6A if they just keep winning. Powers was slinging bullets from the get go which earned him Player of the Game recognition.  Twice in the first quarter he connected with senior receiver Jordan Johnson - both times on slants. The first was a 25 yarder and the next, a sweet 39 yard toss.

The junior quarterback then showed off his legs on a pair of short runs resulting in touchdowns from 2 and 5 yards out.  He was almost perfect passing going 9 for 11 and 186 yards and 3 touchdowns adding 2 on the ground.

The Wildcat offense was not the only side of the ball playing with a purpose.  Their defense kept the bobcats out of the end zone in the first half too.  Cy Fair inserted quarterback Hayden Wesneski late in the second quarter replacing starter Taylor Gray.  He found Notre Dame commit and junior monster tight end Brock Wright early in the 3rd quarter for 38 yard strike.  This would be their only score.

Jones rushed for 180 yards on 21 carries and 1 touchdown run of 1 yard.  Luis Reyes connected on a 32 yard pass to pace the Wildcats scoring in the 2nd quarter.  Cy Woods has scored 40 or more points the past three wins, reaching as many as 70 two weeks ago against Cypress Lakes.  They face Jersey Village next week in a key district game for them regarding the playoffs and then Cypress Springs for the season finale.

Quarterback, Bryson Powers said this about their playoff hopes, “Let’s keep the same thing going, we’ve been saying, go 1-0 every week and we will get ourselves in the playoff, that's what we are aiming for.”

He added, “We need to win out, and we are gonna need a little help but if we win out we are pretty sure we are going to get in, that's our focus right now.”
