Westside Chomps Chavez 21-6

Westside Wins the Dog Fight

Delmar Stadium - The Houston Westside Wolves scored exactly 77 points in their previous two wins. Friday, against the Houston Chavez Lobos they only scored three touchdowns in their win to remain unbeaten in District 20-6A. Behind quarterback Chase Miller and the legs of Ladarian Jamison, Niles Pierre-Lacy, and Da’General Bellard the Wolves scored the first 21 points and cruised to a nice 21-6 win with a big game looming next Thursday against the Houston Bellaire Cardinals.

Westside won the toss and deferred to the second half. The Jovannie Kam kick was fielded by Lobo Autry Moore at the 24 and he raced down the right sideline to the Wolves 40 yard line. After a 15 yard run helped Chavez reach the 19 an offsides and a big Jordan Elliott pass deflection caused the Lobos to turn it over on downs with the early scoring position denied.

The two teams traded possessions before Westside's Stephon Ashby had a beautiful interception of Chase Miller at the Lobo 20 yard line. Neither team scored in the 1st quarter.

The first score came with 3:43 left in the half and the Wolves quickly built a two touchdown lead that they took to the locker room for the half. Two swift Niles Pierre-Lacy runs (23 and 37 yards) aided by a personnel foul moved the Wolves quickly down to the Lobo 11 yard line. Da’ General Bellard then had a nice nine yarder down to the two. A tipped pass on 2nd down and a great job by the whole Lobo defense shut down runningback Ladarian Jamison on a pitch to the right side. It appeared the Lobo defense would end the drive as they shut the left side down on 4th down, but Jamison quickly cut inside for the 1 yard TD run.

The Lobos marched quickly down to the Wolves 21, but a big Steel Willis tackle for loss and two Devaziea Wilson incompletions to Autry Moore on 3rd and 4th downs doomed Chavez. A nice 12 yard Miller toss to Khylin Jackson set up a 65 yard TD strike from Miller to Junior David Crenshaw with 35 seconds remaining in the first half, 14-0.

Westside continued with the hot hand in the 3rd quarter. This time their defense set up the score. Senior Kelwin Moore recovered a bad Lobo pitch all the way down at the 14 yard line. Two plays was all Westside needed before they saw the endzone. Jamison gained 2 yards on first down and then Pierre-Lacy ran toward the sideline and made a great cut back across the goal line for his first score of the night.

In the fourth quarter Dominique Franklin had a solid 12 yard run for the Lobos only score of the night, the PAT was no good, 21-6.

Westside finished with 286 total yards to Chavez's 265.  The Lobos out-rushed the Wolves in this battle of Canis lupus (197 to 147) while Westside had 139 passing yards.

The win improved the Wolves to 3-3 on the season after losing their first 3 games in close hard-fought non district losses while Chavez moved to 2-4 with a game against Houston Sam Houston next weekend
