The Northside Brennan Bears had another great season last year and show no signs of slowing down. The Bears went 9-3 last year to extend their winning streak to 5 years. They are 55-10 over those 5 seasons. The impressive thing is that the 9 wins is the least over the past 4 seasons.
Brennan has an all-time record of 55-20-0 in 75 total games. They began varsity play in 2010. Coach Steve Basore has been their only head coach in their short history. After a rocky start where they went 0-10, they have since become a state power. The Bears run in the record books for most consecutive regular season wins came to an end this year with 34 consecutive regular season wins. That ties them for 47th place all-time.
Next year’s Bears will be strong on the offensive and defensive lines. They have four 1st team all-district players coming back. On offense they have, OL Dorion Jackson-Dreighton and OL Adam Prince. On defense they have, DL Elijah Davis and DL Kavante White.
All three of Brennan’s losses last year were to 25-6A teams. They lost to state powers Smithson Valley and Converse Judson in the regular season and to Cibolo Steele in the playoffs. Once in district they dominated, winning by an average score of 40-13. Their district will change for the next 2 seasons from 27 to 28 but they will be with the same teams. Other schools in District 28-6A are:
- Northside Brandeis
- Northside Clark
- Northside Holmes
- Northside Jay
- Northside Marshall
- Northside O'Connor
- Northside Stevens
- Northside Taft
- Northside Warren.
Can the Bears make it 6 winning seasons in a row? Can they make it past Smithson Valley, Converse Judson and Cibolo Steele who are their possible Bi-District opponents in 27-6A? It will be fun to watch and see how those questions get answered. What we do know is that Coach Basore has a proven track record and the Bears will once again be prepared to take on the best in the state.
