New @GTEagleFootball 5A rankings: other sites have them at #10, #13 and #15. Not sure what's up with @AP and @LSGridiron.
LSG Response: The Eagles of #23 ranked Georgetown are 4-0 on the season and are well on their way to a playoff run. They currently have wins over #128 5A Fort Worth Brewer, #151 6A Hays Consolidated, #50 Hutto and #130 Elgin. Their win against Hutto was an overtime win. It was a solid performance, but none of these opponents have been world-beaters.
That is not exactly a tough schedule so far. The only game they should get a challenge from in their district is Cedar Park. The combined record of everyone on their schedule (that includes Cedar Park and Connally is 17-20). Leander Rouse is ranked #72 and 3-0 Pflugerville Connally is #156. They should end up 9-1 on the season.
We picked them to come in 2nd place in the district behind Cedar Park.
We explained to Matt that the reason he didn't think we were ranking them high enough was likely because only the Top 20 show on the main rankings page and that Premium members get to see every team ranking. Georgetown is indeed a highly ranked team on Lone Star Gridiron, but haven't cracked that Top 20 just yet.
He responded that he thinks Georgetown has a good team this year saying:
Honestly I think in a few weeks it'll be 7-0 Cedar park at 7-0 Georgetown in the biggest game at Birkelbach in years
You can bet that if they reach that game 7-0 and do well there, the Eagles will make believers out of a bunch of folks around the state.
19-5A Pre-Season District Preview
The Eagles were #34 in the Pre-Season rankings. They are now just sitting outside the Top 20 at #23.
