Lamar and Cy-Fair set to Clash

Updated: November 11, 2016
1st Round, Division I, Region III- The Houston Lamar Texans and the Cypress Fairbans Bobcats are set to clash at venerable old Delmar stadium at 7 pm on Friday night. The Texans come into the game with a nice 9-1 record with their only loss coming to #15 Klein Collins. Lamar is #19 in our rankings.
Cy-Fair could be the 2nd best 2-loss team in Houston and the state behind the #7 Katy Tigers. The Bobcats 2 losses came to 2 of the 4 undefeated 6A Houston area teams, #4 The Woodlands and #23 Cy-Ranch. #17 Fort Bend Ridge Point and #28 Alief Taylor are the remaining 2 schools without a loss. Those Alief Taylor Lions are one of the areas surprises and will be in the other monster matchup of the weekend squaring off against 9-1 Dickinson Gators on Saturday 6pm at Crump.
Those two losses for the Bobcats were extremely close. Falling to the Woodlands 23-20 while missing 3 extra points. They also fell to district 17-6A champ Cy-Ranch 24-17 behind a wonderfully wicked fake field goal call By HC Gene Johnson for touchdown pass to RJ Sneed in week 4. The Bobcats come into the game with a 6 game win streak.
Lamar’s only loss was a nail biter defensive struggle against Klein Collins, 14-9 They have a 7 game win streak. The Texans are reigning 18-6A champs now for 9 years in a row. They have Quarterback Owen Holt(Harvard commit) and mighty mite junior Ta’ Zhawn Henry leading the charge. Henry has 112 carries for 1033 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season.
Ta’ Zhawn along with Cornerback Anthony Cook and Wide Receiver Al’ Vonte Woodard headline an astounding crop of junior blue chippers for the HISD power. If Lamar doesn’t pull off the win HISD stands the chance of getting swept in the first round by the 17-6A Cypress schools. Cy-Ridge hosts the Westside Wolves at Pridgeon on Friday along with Bellaire heading to C-F FCU stadium out in Cypress. Langham Creek will tangle with Houston Heights on Thursday night game they should win at Delmar.
Langham Creek lost to Cy-Fair last Saturday at C-F FCU stadium 56-28 in a game that saw Coach Todd Thompson rest star tailback and Georgia pledge Toneil Carter.
Cy-Fair is a big tough team with 2 star juniors of their own in starting tailback Trenton Kennedy and edge master Jace Bobo. The Bobcats boast a big physical tough team with 2 star studded senior maulers. Tight end Brock Wright and 6-6, 330 pound Offensive tackle Austin Deculus will put all kinds of pressure on the edge with Cy-Fair’s tough play-action offense Wright and Deculus are committed to Notre Dame and LSU respectively . A 263 pound average on the offensive line makes their downhill run game one of the best in Houston.
Al’ Vonte Woodard will match up nicely against Bobcat star defensive back Erick Hallett. Hallett had 3 PBUs against Langham with one interception. Another top notch defender is recent Army commit (7/27-2016) defensive end-tackle 6-1, 275 Hunter Adams.
This game is just one of 16 games in Region III in both Districts in 6A. Several districts are included in Region II also with The Woodlands and Klein Collins two of the favorites to be left standing for the semi finals games pitted against the other region winners.
