AT&T Stadium - The Bremond Tigers won their 3rd consecutive state championship game with a 49-28 victory over the Braves from Iraan in the Class 2A Division II game. The Tigers are now 4-4 in title games winning their first in 1981. Iraan is now 1-1 in title games. They won the 1996 2A championship.
Bremond started the game off taking the ball to the Iraan 3 yard line. From there, they were stopped on a 4th & goal play to turn the ball over. After an Iraan punt, the Tigers got on the board with a 40 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Roshauud Paul to receiver Joe Williams. Bremond recovered a fumble on the Braves next possession at the Iraan 48 as Jared Stellbauer sacked the quarterback and stripped the ball and defensive lineman Holden Fuller recovered. The Tigers then coverted a 4th & 3 on a fake punt as the 4th quarter ended.
On the next play and on the first play of the 2nd quarter, running back Kaidyn Peralez ran it in from 37 yards out to give Bremond a 14-0 lead. Iraan finally got their offense started as running back Kyle O'Bannon ran it in from 43 yards out to bring the score to 14-7. On the Tigers next possession, they scored again as Paul scored from 2 yards out. That score was set up by a 55 yard pass to receiver Josh White. The Braves went on a time-eating 75 yard drive that ended when Daryel Lozoya ran for a score from 3 yards out to make the score 210-14 with 1:21 left until half. Bremond started at their own 27 and behind the passing of Paul, drove the ball to the Iraan side of the field. The Brave defense got the stop when defensive back Corley Collins intercepted the ball in the end zone with 3 seconds remaining.
At the half, Bremond led 21-14 and had a yardage advantage of 249-160. Paul had 57 yards rushing and 137 yards passing. Iraan quarterback Clayton Kent had 90 yards rushing.
Bremond scored first in the 2nd half, as Paul scored on a run from 15 yards. The Tigers led 28-14 with 7:19 left in the 3rd quarter. The Braves responded with a 69 yard drive that ended with a 9 yard run by O'Bannon. The Tigers quickly responded when Paul ran for a 51 yard touchdown to make the score 35-21 with 4:18 left in the 3rd. Iraan was stopped on a 4th down play at their own 32 on their next possession. The quarter ended with Bremond on the Braves 4 yard line.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Paul ran it in from 4 yards out. The Tigers now led 42-21 with 11:54 left in the game. After stopping Iraan on 4th down, Paul scored on the first play from 50 yards out making the score 49-21 with 10:38 remaining. The Braves converted a 4th down play on their way to a 80 yard drive that ended with a 26 yard pass from Kent to O'Bannon. With 6:05 left, Bremond led 49-28. From there, Bremond was able to run most of the clock out.
The final stats had Bremond with 309 yards rushing and Iraan with 311. There were 8 4th down tries in the game. Paul finished with 243 yards rushing on 32 carries with 6 total touchdowns. Kent ran for 159 of Iraan's yards.
