How did the teams that topped our regular season rankings finish up the year?
Class 6A
Four of our Top 6 teams made it to the championship game. The other two were knocked out by the teams that made the big game. The biggest surprise was #21 Humble Atascocita making it to the Semifinals.
Class 5A
Aledo was #1 all throughout the year and the boys from Title Town took the Class 5A Division II State Championship. #8 Corpus Christi Calallen, #9 Dallas Highland Park and #11 Temple pushed their way to the championship game. The biggest surprise was powers like Manvel, Denton Ryan and Cedar Park getting knocked out.
Class 4A
West Orange-Stark was everyone's favorite to repeat and lived up to expectation. Carthage surprised a few people by winning the Class 4A DI State Championship. The biggest surprise was Argyle falling in the Regionals. It was not a surprise this year but it was good to see newcomers like Stafford make a good playoff run.
Class 3A
Mineola struggle early on but won the DI title. Gunter was fun to watch win their first championship. This years biggest Class 3A surprise was Brock falling in the Quarterfinals and Boling making a run to the championship game.
Class 2A
Refugio and Crawford were #1 & #2 in DI while Iraan and Bremond were #1 & #2 in DII. The biggest surprise was #11 Anson's Quarterfinals appearance and #7 Wellington's trip to the Semifinals.
Class 1A
Richland Springs are one of the most decorated championship teams in history and rode their preseason ranking all the way to another title run as expected. Balmorhea lived up to the ranking with their appearance and with so much returning, should be in the hunt next year as well.
