28 Record Breaking Playoff Scores in 2016
Lone Star Gridiron continues to be the gold standard for news and historical information about Texas high school football. The record books grow each year and 2016 saw many new records carved into those history books.
There were twenty-eight (28) additions to the Texas High School Football Record Book for highest scoring playoff games recorded in 2016. That list now shows 213 games. To make that list, teams now need to score at least a combined 97 points.
The record for the top spot was broken in 2016 when Levelland beat Decatur 82-73 in the Class 3A Area round of the playoffs for a total of 155 points. The previous record was also tied this year when Mansfield Lake Ridge beat Dallas Samuell 87-58 for a total of 145 points.
Prior to the 2016 playoffs the record of 145 combined points was held by Refugio and Rogers when Refugio won 73-72 in overtime in the 2013 Class 2A Regionals.
