Rattlers Strike Early and Often At McCollum
The San Marcos Rattlers took on the San Antonio McCollum Cowboys last night and came out on top 51-0. The Rattler defense pitched its second shut out of the year behind Senior LB Michael Vargas who continues to rack up tackles with 7 total tackles on the night. The defense was able to create two turnovers on interceptions by Nicholas Riddings-Cook and Terry Stennet. The Rattlers were able to hold the Cowboys offense under 40 total yards the entire night.
The offense got on a roll early putting up 37 first half points lead by senior quarterback Prudencio Calderon who had 79 rushing yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries adding another 134 and 2 touchdowns through the air. Eighty-seven of those yards were piled up by senior inside receiver Julian Perez. Junior running back Jamon Johnson did his part adding 82 yards rushing with two touchdowns on only 7 carries.
The Rattlers start district play next week against Austin Del Valle. The Cowboys will travel to the Valley to take on Eagle Pass Winn.
Leading up to district play, senior quarterback Prudencio Calderon has put up an impressive stat line with 859 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns on 71 carries and another 589 yards passing with six touchdowns. Junior running back Jamon Johnson has been threat all season too with 546 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. Senior linebacker Michael Vargas has been the leader of the defense with 46 total tackles this year.
