Georgetown Routs East View in Battle of the San Gabriel
Senior wide receiver Caden Legett caught three touchdowns and rushed for a fourth on Friday night as the Georgetown Eagles routed their rivals, the Georgetown East View Patriots, 68-20. The game marked the sixth installment of the Battle of the San Gabriel. Georgetown led the all-time series 4-1 with East View’s lone win coming in 2014.
Entering the game, the Eagles were 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in district. The Eagles’ lone loss came against Hutto in their district opener 25-23. East View entered the game at 2-3 overall and 1-2 in district. From the beginning, Georgetown dominated both sides of the ball.
In the first half, senior quarterback Cooper Bell threw for four touchdowns and rushed for a fifth. Three of the touchdown passes were to Legett, and the fourth was to senior wide receiver Nic Crombie. Senior defensive back Paul Saucedo also scored on a pick-six to put the Eagles up 40-7 at the half. The interception was the second of three for Saucedo in the game. East View’s lone first-half touchdown came on a 19-yard pass from junior quarterback Aaron Garces to junior running back Jordan Espinoza in the second quarter.
In the second half, Legett scored on a nine-yard touchdown run on the opening drive to put the Eagles up 47-7. Senior running backs Eric Anderson and Ben Rickerson along with sophomore running back RJ Moreno added three touchdowns on runs of one, 47, and 30 yards respectively.
For East View, junior running back Zion Hester rushed for a 63-yard touchdown; and Garces threw his second touchdown of the night on a 19-yard pass to senior wide receiver Donald Walton.
With the win, Georgetown improves to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in district. Next week, the Eagles will host the Leander Rouse Raiders (2-3 overall, 1-2 district). The Raiders are coming off their first district win after defeating Bastrop Cedar Creek 42-10. East View, meanwhile, falls to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in district. The Patriots will travel to Pflugerville next week to take on the Pflugerville Connally Cougars (2-3 overall, 1-2 district.) The Cougars are coming off a 50-46 loss to Bastrop.
