Hendrickson tops Stony Point to take 2nd place in District 13-6A
In a game that held much interest for District 13-6A teams, the Pflugerville Hendrickson Hawks (5-3) and the Round Rock Stony Point Tigers (4-5) , played Thursday night to determine who would end the season as the second seed in the postseason. The Hawks victory left them with the inside track on that spot. The Hawks absolutely abused Stony Point with the powerful run game and timely passing, en route to a 37-22 win over the struggling Tiger defense.
Hendrickson totaled 203 rushing yards on just 40 carries (5.1 YPC) and three rushing touchdowns, and added 155 yards and two touchdowns thru the air. It was the sixth time this season an opponent facing the Tigers was able to run for over 175 yards in a game, and the fifth time it has occurred in a district game.
The Hawk defense contributed heavily towards the win, controlling momentum the majority of the game. The Hawk defense limited the dynamic Stony Point offense that came in averaging over 40 points, and nearly 270 rushing yards per game, to just 22 points and 84 rushing yards on 31 attempts (2.7 YPC). This marked the first time all season the Tiger offense had less than 200 yards rushing, with their leading rusher, junior WR Tyler O’Bannon, pitching in 53 of the 84 yards on 8 carries.
Hendrickson now moves to 5-3 overall (3-1 in district), and is guaranteed the second spot in district with one more win against either, the Round Rock Dragons (1-7) or their city rival, Pflugerville Panthers (2-6).
Stony Point clinches the third overall spot in district with a win next week, when they wrap up their season next week against the last place Round Rock McNeil Mavericks (1-7) looking to move to .500 before making their second consecutive trip to playoffs.
For District 13-6A, following Friday night’s games, the playoff field is essentially set, with the four representing the district being; Round Rock Cedar Ridge, Hendrickson, Stony Point and Westwood. Cedar Ridge as well, took their second consecutive district championship following a 49-17 thrashing of Pflugerville. The Raiders are currently ranked #19 in Class 6A with their only remaining game against Round Rock Westwood following a bye week.
*Due to a UIL ruling Stony Point forfeited wins over Killeen and Killeen-Ellison which officially moves their record to 4-5.
