Is Alto’s Winning Streak About To End?

Current Winning Streak At 29 Years

The Alto Yellow Jackets are on the verge of having a losing season. A losing season for most schools is not uncommon....it happens about 1/2 the time. But for Alto, it has not happened in 29 years. They finished 4-6 in 1987 for their last losing season.

This year they are 1-5 with a district loss. They have a chance to salvage a winning season if they win the rest of their district games and then win two playoff games. The problem is that they are in one of the toughest districts in Class 2A Division I (11-2A DI). Their district contains #4 San Augustine (6-0), #8 Price Carlisle (6-0), #13 Joaquin (5-1) #65 Cushing (4-2) and #45 Shelbyville (1-5).

We have Alto ranked #16 mostly because they ARE a good team and because of their pre-district schedule. They had pre-district games against Winona (3-3) which was a 1 point loss, Big Sandy (5-1) which was Alto's win, Arp (2-4), Garrison (3-3) and Rusk (5-2). Alto's district loss came against Joaquin. Over the next two weeks, they face undefeated Price Carlisle and then San Augustine. Those may be tough games to win but it is not out of the question. If they lose those two then they end the season against Cushing and Shelbyville. They will need to win both of those to make the playoffs.

The streak is likely to end this week. I have Carlisle picked to win the game by 9. This is still a good team and I would not want to be the team to have to face them in the playoffs.
