357 Overall Wins
Prior to Saturday night, only ten people in the history of Texas high school football have won 300 games as a head football coach in the University Interscholastic League (UIL.) Now there are eleven.
Houston Lamar's Tom Nolen reached the milestone as his Texans counted down the final seconds of their 40-7 win over Houston Westside. The historic win was expected to come a few games earlier in this season but Hurricane Harvey had something to say by delaying the start of Lamar's football season by two weeks.
To say that Coach Nolen is a winner is one of the biggest understatements you could make. In compiling this impressive list of wins, he totally turned around the Houston Lamar program. Prior to his arrival, the Texans (then Redskins) had only made the playoffs 10 times in 48 years. In his time at Lamar, Coach Nolen has never had a losing season while earning 19 District titles and 30 playoff appearances.
In addition to his 300 wins as a head coach for the Lamar Texans, Nolen was head coach for the Houston Strake Jesuit Crusaders (before they joined the UIL) where he compiled a record 57-20-1 and four state championships ( 1976, 1977, 1980 and 1981.) Nolen was also the head coach for baseball and swimming which earned him three other state titles - baseball (1981 and 1982), swimming (1977).
