Katy Breezes Past Cypress Ranch 55-7

Katy Tigers (9-0) vs. Cypress Ranch Mustangs (8-2)
Cypress Ranch went into the Area Round playoff game against the Katy Tigers with the saying "third time is a charm." The Mustangs wanted to break the streak of losing postseason game to the Tigers but it was again not to be.
Ranch started with the ball but were shut down quickly. Katy then used their strong running game to go 63 yards for the first score. Running back Deondrick Glass got the touchdown with a 44 yard run. That made the score 7-0 Katy.
After another Mustang punt, Katy kicked a 43 yard field that brought the score to 10-0. The Mustangs were forced to punt again and gave the Tigers the ball at their own 44. One play later Mustang defensive back Shemar Bartholomew stripped the ball and returned it 47 yard for the strip-and-score cutting the lead 10-7. The first quarter ended with momentum and hope shifting to the Mustangs.
The teams traded punts to start the 2nd quarter. Katy took over and scored on a 43 yard pass from quarterback Bronson McClelland to receiver Jordan Patrick extending the Tiger lead 17-7. Katy recovered a fumbled at the Mustang 18. Linebacker Chase Willette caused the fumble and linebacker Matt Kissamis recovered. The Tigers followed that with a quick scoring pass from Austin Marshall to Jacob Lighter to bring the score to 24-7.
On the next possession, the Mustangs first play was yet another interception. It was picked off by Jiami Angulo. Fortune swung quickly the other way when Katy fumbled on their first play and it was recovered by Mustang defensive lineman Matthew Blair. A few plays later, Katy defensive back KeShon Rowe intercepted the ball and in a highlight reel return took it back-and-forth across the field before reaching the endzone 44 yards yards later to extend the score to 31-7.
The half ended with another Katy TD pass from Marshall to Lighter and Katy leading 38-7. In the first half, the Tigers finished with 239 total yards. Cypress Ranch was held to 23 total yards that included -10 yards rushing.
Katy opened the 2nd half with the ball but fumbled at the Mustang 21 yard line. Katy got the ball back and scored on a 1 yard run by Glass. The drive was highlighted by a 61 yard run by Glass. The touchdown stretched it to 45-7.
The Tigers score on the first play of the 4th quarter as running back David Buteaux scored from 1 yard out. The extra point made it 52-7. Another Mustang punt led to a Tiger 41 yard field goal to make the final score 55-7. Katy finished with 441 total yards. 317 of that was rushing. Cypress Ranch was held to 31 total yards and -7 yards rushing.
