Stephenville Yellow Jackets: Are They Back?

The 'Ville Demands Your Respect
The Stephenville Yellow Jackets have already surpassed everyone's expectations this year. They have an 11-2 record and are playing in the Quarterfinals. Usually, you just say yes... they are doing what they do every year. But... if you have not followed closely, the Yellow Jackets have gone 7-15 in the previous two injury plagued seasons under Head Coach Greg Winder.
They still made the playoffs, but lost in Bi-District both years. Their losing season in 2015 ended a streak of 26 consecutive winning seasons and 11 consecutive 8+ win seasons. So... are they back?
They knocked off state power Argyle last week 31-28 in the Regionals. That win made everyone (not just loyal fans) stand up and notice what is going on. Before that game, the Yellow Jackets were 10-2 which is impressive but their wins were against teams with a combined record of 45-65.
Are the 5-time State Champion Yellow Jackets back? Is the 2017 version of The 'Ville as good as their historic squads? Can this be the beginning of another 26 year run - like the one that was started by Head Coach Art Briles in 1989?
This week will go a long way toward answering those questions when they take on Wichita Falls Hirschi Friday (7:00 PM) at Fort Worth's Rangers Stadium. Hirschi is having one on their best seasons in school history behind the #1 rusher in the state Daimarqua Foster (3,139 yards). Despite the tough competition, according to our Playoff Predictions, most of the LSG folks have Stephenville moving on.
The winner of that game will move on to face the survivor between Kennedale and Kaufman in the state Semifinals next week.
