28-6A Playoff Battle Looks Tough
-
Updated: March 20, 2018
District 28-6A has 10 schools in their district. All ten teams are schools from the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio. There will be more teams not making the playoffs in this district (6) than some districts have total teams. At some of the lower levels, there are only 4 teams in the district. What this means is that at least the final playoff spot will be fought over by at least seven teams.
District 28-6A
Northside Brandeis -- 9 year winning streak (86-25)
Northside Brennan -- 7 year winning streak (68-20)
Northside Clark -- 8 consecutive losing seasons (30-52)
Northside Holmes -- 17 consecutive non-winning seasons
Northside Jay -- 2017 ended a 8 year losing streak
Northside Marshall -- 11 year losing streak
Northside O'Connor -- 7 year winning streak (65-22)
Northside Stevens -- 2 year losing streak (7-13)
Northside Taft -- 13 consecutive non-winning seasons
Northside Warren -- 2017 ended a 3 year losing streak
Although it is way too early to predict, here are some interesting facts about how 2018 is shaping up for the teams in 28-6A:
O’Connor, Brennan, Warren and Jay all made the playoffs last year. Jay defeated Brandeis 58-57 in overtime to secure that final playoff spot. Jay will be an interesting team to watch again this year with 2 unanimous all-district selections at the quarterback and running back spots in QB Jacob Zeno and RB Jaylin Hastings. O’Connor brings back 4 1st team all-district players while Brandeis and Taft bring back 3. Clark (2), Warren (1), Stevens (1), Brennan (2) and Holmes (2) round out the returning 1st team all-district players. An early prediction on playoff teams would most likely be O’Connor, Brennan, Brandeis and Jay. Rest assured though that that final spot will be a hard fought battle and will likely involve several teams in the final week.
