Wildcats Continue to Tighten Rivalry
The rivalry between Perryton and Canadian connected by 45 empty miles of Highway 83 continued with another win by Canadian bringing the last decade of contests to a 7-3 record in the Wildcat’s favor.
The challenge of taking on Perryton, (always a larger school classification) still has Canadian at a deficit with the overall record at 30-40-2. The game always has family, friends and working relationships between the two cities involved with the tradition area match.
Week 3 saw Canadian running the NASCAR no-huddle spread offense yet a little faster than the week before, however, several mistakes robbed the Wildcats of several scores through the night. Case in point, Canadian’s first offensive series took them to the Perryton 14 yard line in 10 plays, but a scramble by QB Casen Cavalier ended the drive on the half-yard line with a fumble out of the end zone, a touchback turnover going to the Rangers.
Perryton’s offense found little success against the swarming defense of the Wildcats, going 3-and-out on their first two possessions. The Ranger’s only TD for the night came at the very end of the first half on a scramble by QB Ryan Davis from 7 yards out. In the fourth quarter, Kenny Ramirez finished up Perryton’s scoring with a 30 yard FG.
Canadian’s Cavalier (19-27-0) found WR Bill Koetting for a TD catch and Garrison McCook hauled in two other Cavalier passes for TD’s. The passing production totaled 236 yards with a well balance running attack of 273 yards, two of those rushes going for TDs by Cavalier from 16 and 3 yards out.
Next week Perryton will host the Bushland Falcons and Canadian will continue a short home stand versus Sanford-Fritch and will be celebrating the annual Homecoming festivities.
