What is the Texas Tour?
For nearly 15 years our love for Texas high school football has sent us around the state to watch some of the truly great players that our state has to offer. We’ve seen Cy Young award winner Clayton Kershaw snap the ball to Pro Bowl QB Matt Stafford. We were sitting in the stands watching future Heisman Trophy winners RG3 (Robert Griffin III) and Johnny Football (Johnny Manziel) for their explosive prep careers. Our goal is to see as many future college and NFL players that a Friday night will allow!
#63 Georgetown East View vs #64 Bastrop
The Back Story
Bastrop went 2-8 last year, but with the shift to Division II and 16 returning starters they are picked to get into the playoffs. Their lone loss this year is to Pflugerville Connally in Division 1. They are picked to beat the Patriots by 15, but that may be due in part to Georgetown East View’s record. Two losses came to 6A schools (one of them by just 2 points) and the other was a one point loss to Brenham who is picked to win the district. Lone Star Gridiron has the two teams ranked virtually the same. The Patriots are averaging 41.4 points per game. Although the Patriots missed the playoffs last year, realignment has them picked to make the playoffs as well.

Game Time
This was the best game we have seen all year! East View took the opening kickoff and went three and out. Bastrop drove down the field and scored on a 1 yard leap into the end zone by RB J’hequay Chretin (26-115 yds, 2 TDs; rec 2-10 yds; KR 1-16 yds). When East View got the ball back they went into a very fast hurry up offense and started to move the ball down the field with ease. They scored on a 20 yard pass from QB Jackson Coulson (13-17-0 for 111 yds, 2 TDs; rush 2-(-9) yds) to Devhaun Little (5-59 yds, 2 TDs; PR 1-17 yds) to tie it up at 7.
On the ensuing possession the Bears ended up with a first and goal at the five yard line. The Patriots defense stiffened up and held the Bears on 4th and goal at the two and got the ball back on the turnover on downs at their own one yard line. On the very next play, RB Zion Hester went 99 yards to take the lead. Hester finished the game with 30 carries for 175 yds and a TD. Both offenses stalled until the last few minutes of the half when Coulson connected with Little for their second TD of the game (a 13 yard strike). The snap on the PAT was fumbled so East View held a 20-7 lead. Bastrop got into scoring position quickly. They threw a TD pass that was negated by an illegal man downfield. A few plays later, one of the Bears wide receivers was all alone in the end zone and the ball hit him in the hands and he dropped it. After the two misses on TDs, they lined up for a 25 yard field goal with 1:19 left in the halfand missed it. The Patriots took the 20-7 lead into the half.
Bastrop opened the second half with drive and another 1 yard TD run by Chretin, but the PAT bounced off of the left upright. With the second half momentum in their favor the Bears kicked off to the Patriots and Isaiah Jackson took it 88 yards back the other direction to take the momentum back and give themselves a 27-13 cushion. As the fourth quarter opened, Bastrop scored on a 12 yard pass from Desmond Young (12-23-0 for 167 yds, 2 TDs; rush 20-122 yds) to Chris Henderson, but the PAT was blocked leaving the Patriots with a 27-19 lead. The Patriots extended the lead to 30-19 on a Reed Honshtien 40 yard field goal with 2:39 left in the game. That looked like the dagger, but Bastrop wasn’t done. It took the Bears 33 seconds to score again on a 24 yard pass from Young to Cole Tidwell. The 2 point pass failed. The Bears didn’t get the onside kick, but the defense held the Patriots and got the ball back at their own 16 yard line with 45 seconds left in the game. The Bears had no timeouts and could only get to midfield before time ran out.
Game Notes
East View DB DK Little had 11 tackles (1 TFL) in just over a half of play. It looked like he got dinged up and had to leave the game, but he was all over the field.
East View LB Stefon Reyes also had a great game with 9 tackles and 2 sacks.
