Weimar Returns the Favor in Schulenburg

It doesn't matter if you take I-10 or Highway 90, only eight miles separate Weimar from Schulenburg. These two towns have a lot in common and the biggest thing each Fall is this high school football rivalry. You can do whatever you like the rest of the year, you can be the best of friends and neighbors, but you just don't lose to your rival - especially at home.
Last season the Schulenburg Shorthorns (#20 3A DII) made the trek to Weimar and came away with a 28-21 win. This year, the Weimar Wildcats (#15 2A DI) were looking to return the favor by going West and getting some revenge. Both teams entered the night with one win on the season and zero losses but as they say, "someone's o has to go!"
The first quarter saw Weimar strike fast with a 50 plus yard bomb pass from Joey Ramirez to Ravondre Wicks giving the Wildcats a 7-0 lead after the PAT. Schulenburg could do very little with the ball and a shanked punt gave Weimar great field position. Weimar was unable to capitalize on the great field position and punted back to Schulenburg.
The Shorthorns began to move the ball a bit until a pass bounced off the falling-down receiver into hands of the Wildcat cornerback Kedredrian Wilson. He returned the gift for a pick-six! Weimar led 14-0 after the first quarter.
The Weimar defense continued to clamp down and win the field position battle. Weimar scored once more to extend their lead to 21-0. Schulenburg's lone highlight in the first half of play was a blocked FG attempt just before halftime.
The second half was more of the same as Weimar added another TD. Defensive special teams play again stood out for the Shorthorns, and this time, led to points. The PAT attempt by Weimar was blocked and returned by Jordan Jurena the length of the field for 2 Schulenburg points.
The 'Horns added another score when quarterback Brett Janacek connected with Jurena, but it was too little, too late as they too lost the rivalry game at home. Weimar took the triumphant short-ride home having avenged last season with a 27-9 victory Friday.
