1Q
The Katy Tigers kicked off to Cedar Hill to start the game. The Longhorns went to work from their own 26 and went to the passing game right away. Kaidon Salter tossed a quick 15 yarder to Javien Clemmer before taking the ball on the run for another first down. A couple of dropped passes by the Cedar Hill receivers left them punting. The punt rolled to the Katy 3 yard line. The Tigers went to their bread and butter - or Thunder and Lightning as the Davis brothers are called. Jalen Davis, the elder of the brothers got the first few carries but an intentional grounding and false start penalties slowed their progress. The 3rd and 27 play was almost enough as younger brother Seth Davis made 26. Coach Gary Joseph elected to punt rather than risk turning the ball over in their own territory.
After a quick first down pass to Kylon Ashton, the next pass was complete to Brian Rainey but fumbled when Dalton Johnson jarred the ball loose and Katy's Hamilton McMartin fell on the loose ball for the first turnover. The replay officials however changed the ruling and called it an incomplete pass. A couple more incomplete passes and the Longhorns were punting again. Again the Tiger committed a couple uncharacteristic penalties but Jalen Davis made up for it with some solid runs. The running setup a Caleb Koger pass to wide open Taylor Saulsbury on a play action pass from 37 yards out. 7-0 Katy
The next Cedar Hill drive was highlighted be a swarming Katy defense putting pressure on Salter. On third down, flushed out of the pocket he tossed an interception to Shepherd Bowling. This gave Katy the ball at the Cedar Hill 41. The quarter ended with Katy driving.
2Q
Koger went back to the air and tossed the ball to another wide open receiver - Nick Anderson to the 3 yard line. Jalen Davis then rolled in on the left side for his 25th TD of the season, 14-0 Katy. Down by two scores, the Longhorns needed to settle down and play their game. To that end, they went right back to their strength - the air. Their 3rd down woes continued when they had two consecutive penalties leaving them with a 3rd and 30. Unable to convert again, Cedar Hill punted to the Katy 42.
Seth and Jalen Davis took turns running the ball and moving the team. Once inside the 20, Koger attempted his fifth pass and got his first incompletion and then a illegal chop block killed the drive. Nemanja Lazic, the kicker, entered the game 7 of 7 for the year with a longest of 47 yards, lined up for a 48 yarder that sailed through with ease. 17-0 Katy
Cedar Hill started deep in their territory after a chop block call on the return. They were unable to get anything and had to punt with 1:52 to go in the half. Katy was 62 yards from a score with two timeouts knowing they would get the ball to start the second half. Just when it looked they would run out of time to score, Koger handed to Isaiah Smith on a wrap-around draw that he took 54 yards for another score. 24-0 Katy
With just 29 seconds to go in the half, Cedar Hill was unable to generate enough offense before the break.
3Q
Cedar Hill tried to kick onside and recovered it but the ball was contacted by a Longhorn before 10 yards so Katy got the ball at midfield. After a couple Jalen Davis runs, a pass interference call saw Katy at the 27. The Tigers continued to matriculate down the field and capped it with Lazic's second field goal, this one a 21 yarder. 27-0 Katy
Cedar Hill started their first drive of the second half down by 27. Anthony Thomas had two great carries to move the Longhorns to the Katy 48 but on the next carry, Jaiden Callahan had the ball knocked loose by Dalton Johnson. The ball bounced into the hands of McMartin at the 45 who ran down the left side 55 yards for another Katy score. 34-0 Katy
The Longhorns again tried to make headway against the Tigers defense but again came up short and lined up for a punt. A direct snap to the fullback, Kylon Ashton caught everyone off guard and he sprinted 67 yards before being run down from behind by Antonio Silva at the 4 yard line just before scoring. Three plays later, Salter provided the first Cedar Hill score when he took a quarterback draw for the score. 34-7 Katy Attempting another onside kick, Cedar Hill again failed to convert and gave Katy great field position. Seth Davis started things off with a 21 yard run not a lot more as Lazik finished things with a 38 yard field goal. 37-7 Katy
Cedar Hill took off again, when Salter hit Thomas for a long pass down to the 20. A couple of incomplete passes saw them facing another 3rd and long - this time they converted with a pass to Klemmer across the middle. One first and goal from the 10, another quarterback draw, this time to right, left Salter standing in the end zone with his second TD. 34-14 Katy The Tigers took over at midfield when Cedar Hill again missed an onside kick attempt.
4Q
The Tigers went back to Thunder and Lightning as it furthered the goal of burning clock - this time, all Seth Davis. His fourth straight carry was a 25 yard squirt up the middle for a score. 44-11 Katy The Longhorns tried to, with 10:25 left in the game, by an attempted screen pass that resulted in Salter tossing the ball directly into the hands of Katy's DE Cal Varner who took it the 15 yards in for yet another Katy score. 51-14 Katy
Cedar Hill again was unable to get anything going as Varner sacked Salter on third down. Katy again started at midfield, this time with a 37 point lead and 7:55 to go. The Tiger proceeded to continue the ground and pound to a first down before putting in the reserves. They had to settle for a field goal attempt but it was no good. Cedar Hill took over with just over 3 minutes and burned most of it before kicking to Katy for the final kneel downs.
The Offensive Player of the Game was Seth Davis
The Defensive Player of the Game was Cal Varner
