Gunter Tigers Dominate Woodville in State Championship Game
Arlington, TX - The Gunter Tigers claimed the Class 3A Division II State Championship with a decisive 28-0 victory over the Woodville Eagles at AT&T Stadium on December 19, 2024. Gunter's dominant defense and explosive offense left Woodville unable to gain momentum throughout the game.
The scoring began in the second quarter with Gunter quarterback Preston Tarpley connecting on an 18-yard touchdown pass to Cole Harpole. The third quarter saw the Tigers extend their lead significantly. Mitchell Gage returned the second-half kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown, followed by Tarpley's 59-yard touchdown pass to Cash Rumage. In the fourth quarter, Brock Boddie intercepted a Woodville pass and returned it 62 yards for a touchdown.
Gunter's offense amassed 205 total yards, including 84 rushing and 121 passing yards. Preston Tarpley completed 9 of 15 passes for 121 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
