Duncanville Races Past Klein Collins
Duncanville Head coach Reginald Samples has turned the Panthers into a 6A juggernaut. Under Samples’s leadership, the Panthers have made the playoffs every year since 2016 and have reached at least the state semi-finals every year since 2018. During this run, the Panthers have made five state championship appearances and won back-to-back state championships in 2022 and 2023.
On Saturday, the Panthers continued their playoff success with a dominant 34-7 victory over the Klein Collins Tigers in the 6A-D1 regional semifinals. After a slow start on their opening drive, the Panthers took control in the first quarter and never looked back. The Panthers led 28-0 at halftime, and the Tigers only reached Duncanville territory once in the first half.
Offensively, the Panthers gashed the Tigers on the ground rushing for over 300 yards and four touchdowns. “We changed some things around early (offensively) and tried some new schemes,” Samples said after the game. Receiver Ayson Theus led the team in rush yards with 142. Theus also scored a touchdown on an 81-yard run in the second quarter. Receiver Trenton Yancey rushed for 92 yards and three touchdowns, and receiver Leon Wood also caught a 33-yard touchdown pass.
Defensively, the Panthers contained the normally potent Tiger offense. The Panthers held quarterback Braydon Schoggin to 166 yards passing and the entire team to 51 yards rushing. The defense also sacked Schoggin four times. Running back Tyce Hudson scored the Tigers’ lone touchdown on a 14-yard touchdown run in the third quarter
After the game, Coach Samples stressed that he does not take any of the success his team has had for granted. “We work hard to get this far, and it never gets old,” Samples said. The win advances the Panthers to the 6A-D1 Region 2 finals where they will meet a familiar foe, the Waxahachie Indians. The Indians handed the Panthers their only loss of the season in a 28-27 thriller in week 2. The game is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, at Midlothian ISD Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm CST.
Klein Collins finishes the year at 11-2.
