College Station A&M Consolidated Holds On Against Pflugerville Weiss

On Friday night, the College Station A&M Consolidated Tigers shook up the District 12-5A D1 title race with a 49-47 win over the Pflugerville Weiss Wolves. Combined with College Station's 57-38 win over Killeen, the result tightened the district race and left four teams within striking distance of the top spot. Consol and College Station sit at 4-1 in district play, while Weiss and Killeen each have one district loss.

Friday's contest at The Pfield showcased two explosive offenses. Weiss was powered by quarterback Jaxon Schaad and a talented receiving corps featuring Tre Moore, Audric Williams, and Jordan Ibn Anderson-El. The trio combined for 268 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while Anderson added an 88-yard kickoff return score. Receiver Jordan Frohock also ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown.

Consol answered with a balanced attack led by quarterback Holt Goodwin and receiver Mari Moore. Goodwin accounted for seven total touchdowns including one on the ground, while Moore hauled in five catches for 128 yards and two scores. Receiver Cooper Johnson had two touchdown catches, while Braylon Dickson and Nate Pittman each also caught a touchdown.

Consol struck first when Moore ran a screen pass 71 yards to the house on the first play from scrimmage. Weiss meanwhile struggled to move the ball early in the game. Tiger Head Coach Brandon Schmidt credited his defense for their work against the Weiss receiving corps. "We knew they were going to make plays...They hit a few deep balls on us, but I thought we did a good job changing coverages on them and double-teaming them."

Early in the first quarter, Weiss got on the board when Frohock punched the ball in from four yards out. The Tigers and Wolves then continued to trade blows and went into the half tied at 21-21.

The shootout continued after halftime, with both teams scoring on their opening possessions. Although Consol twice built two-score advantages, Weiss repeatedly answered to keep the game within reach.

Despite the setbacks, Weiss refused to give up. Trailing 49-35 early in the fourth quarter, the Wolves recaptured momentum. Schaad connected with Anderson for a 19 yard touchdown catch; but the Tigers blocked the extra point. Linebacker Noah McPeak forced a fumble, and the Wolves capitalized on the turnover with a 53-yard touchdown pass to Anderson. Weiss went for two to tie the game, but Consol stopped Schaad one yard short.
