The Braves were ranked #1 for most of the 49-50 season but lost the NIT tournament to CCNY. Later that month, they lost again to the CCNY Beavers in the NCAA Championship. The team was led by SR Paul Unruh (12.8 ppg) and JR Gene Melchiorre (11.9 ppg.)
After a point shaving scandal derailed the CCNY team that beat them to win both tourneys, a rule was passed that prohibited teams from playing in both postseason tournaments.
