Featured in the film Greater: Lineman, Brandon Burlsworth, was told he wasn't good enough to play Division I football, he took a risk and walked on in 1994, and he became one of the most respected players in the history of the program. He is the namesake for the Burlsworth Trophy awarded each year to college football's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on.

The team was quarterbacked by future NFL player, Clint Stoerner.
