The 1981-82 Cheyney State Lady Wolves women's basketball team, finished the season with a 28-3 record and ranked second in the Final AP Poll. The Lady Wolves were the first HBCU men's or women's basketball program to play in the Division I championship game despite being a Division II team. In addition, they were the first team to feature and all female, all black staff. In the inaugural season of the women's NCAA tournament, Cheyney State advanced to the finals, but lost to Louisiana Tech 76-62 which was led by Kim Mulkey.
In 2024, the team was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. The 81-82 team featured 8 high school All-Americans.
