Walter Payton, Jim McMahon, Mike Singletary and William "the Refrigerator" Perry were just a few of the 1085 Bears coached by Mike Ditka. The Bears won their first twelve games of the season before losing to the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football. The loss to the Dolphins would be the only loss the Bears would suffer that season, as they finished with a 15–1 record. The day after losing to the Dolphins led by Dan Marino the Bears recorded the pop smash hit "Super Bowl Shuffle." That was well before completing their goal and beating the New England Patriots 45-10 in Super Bowl XX.
