Coaching Changes — Kilgore

Kilgore's Mike Vallery has retired after 36 years in coaching. Twenty five of those years as a head coach with the last fifteen years at Kilgore. Defensive coordinator Mike Wood has been promoted to replace Vallery as the head coach and athletic director.
Vallery ends his coaching career with a 133-47-1 record at Kilgore and a 227-73-1 overall record. He also led the Bulldogs to a state championship in 2004. His teams made the playoffs 14 of his 15 seasons and had an great run with a record of 39-4 from 2003-2005. Coach Vallery is currently ranked #36 on the all-time coaching wins list. Wood has coached at Kilgore since 1995 and has been the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach since 1996.
Kilgore will again compete in 14-4A next year. They are the smallest school in class 4A. They missed the 3A-4A cutoff by only four students. The Bulldogs will be a member of a large eight team district with Whitehouse, Nacogdoches, Jacksonville, Hallsville, Longview Pine Tree, Marshall and Tyler John Tyler. 2009 was a down year for the Bulldogs as they went 5-6 and had their first losing season in 14 years.
