CLASS 5A CHAMPIONSHIP PREDICTIONS
-
Updated: August 23, 2011
Here is how LSG predicts the 2011 season will end.
Division I: DeSoto will face the tough challenge of knocking off powerhouse Euless Trinity in the semifinals but Euless will find a way to win and advance to their fifth championship game since 2005. The other game will feature two teams that have been in a combined twenty-one championship games. Converse Judson (11 games) will not be able to hold off Katy (10 games). The championship game will then feature two of high schools best with Euless Trinity and Katy going at it. In what would probably be a state record for attendance in a game, Trinity will pull off the big win.
Region I Champion: Euless Trinity Trojans
Region II Champion: DeSoto Eagles
Region III Champion: Katy Tigers
Region IV Champion: Converse Judson Rockets
Championship: Euless Trinity Trojans win over Katy Tigers
Division II: Two newcomers, Cypress Wood (4th varsity season) and Cibolo Steele (6 varsity season) will face off in one semifinal game. Steele will advance to go for their second consecutive championship. The other bracket will feature two of the states best traditions. Lufkin will face off against the Dragons of Southlake Carroll. The teams met in the semifinals in 2002, 2004 and 2005 with Southlake winning all three games. It looks like that pattern will continue as Carroll will go to their ninth state championship game. In the championship game, Cibolo Steele will be denied their repeat as Southlake will go on to with their eighth state championship to tie Celina for most ever state championships and their first since 2006.
Region I Champion: Southlake Carroll Dragons
Region II Champion: Lufkin Panthers
Region III Champion: Cypress Woods Wildcats
Region IV Champion: Cibolo Steele Knights
Championship: Southlake Carroll Dragons win over Cibolo Steele Knights
