Devine defeated Hondo 47-27 to win the district title. They finished the regular season 10-0 overall and 6-0 in district play. Hondo finished 8-2 and 4-2. Devine will play San Antonio Houston (8-2) next week while Hondo will be going up against Gonzales (10-0).

Devine's star running back Joseph Sadler finished the game with 466 yards on 50 carries and scored 5 touchdowns. For the season, he now has 2,884 yards and 46 touchdowns on 225 carries.

    Joseph is already close to breaking the state all time single season scoring record according to the San Antonio Express news. They have him at 373 points for the season going into the playoffs.

    I’ve seen a lot of high school games in my life and many student athletes have impressed me, but what i saw last Friday night in Hondo was the single best performance by a a football player! The Owls put 11 players on Joseph Sadler all game long and they could not stop him. For what he has achieved this year as a running back he should be mentioned with the best of them in the country! FYI, i’m not from Devine i’m from Dilley…
