2012 LSG Texas High School Football Team Preview — Mason Punchers

Team: Mason Punchers (14-1A Division I)

Stadium: R. Clinton Schulze Stadium (Puncher Dome)

Enrollment: 197 -- 2nd largest in the district out of 6 schools

Coach: Kade Burns (1 year) 15-0 record at Mason; 30-6 All-Time Coaching Record

Mike Says: Head Coach Kade Burns enjoyed his first season leading The Punchers. They are the defending Class 1A Division I champions and went 15-0 in his initial year. They will miss David Mora and his 7,622 career rushing yards though. He was part of a large senior class. This years team will be young with lots of juniors stepping in to key roles. Look for them to go 8-2 or 7-3 in the regular season and with the district title. Once in the playoffs, their main competition will come from Shiner and Ganado in the region. (They beat both of these teams last year on their way to the championship)

Chris Says: What a blast the Mason Punchers were last season! They have some great fans that certainly love their Punchers! We got so many great call-ins giving the team a shoutout that we all became fans around here. (713-568-6361 if you want to give a shoutout!) Mason not only rolled through the season and playoffs, but they did so with class - you gotta like that. What about this season? David Mora is gone. They graduated a ton of experience (only six starters return.) What do they have to look forward to? Well, you don't win a state championship on the legs of one player. You don't win a state championship scoring the crazy amounts they put up off dumb luck. This team believes in itself, this community believes in their Punchers and this coach will use all of that to mold the next crop of players into winners. Expect Mason to have another great year and another excellent playoff run. I don't think back to back state titles are in their immediate future, but with the passion that I see in this little town, all things are possible.
